Naomi's Notes: Increase Your Credit Score
    by: Naomi Hulme

So many small business owners have a difficult time keeping a cash flow and having a good credit score at the same time. Death to a business is not having enough money and not having a way to get money. When a business owner is in a cash crunch, it is a fearful time. If that same business owner does not have good credit, then it is sometimes impossible for them to keep their business going. Of course, the best case scenario is for companies to plan ahead and always be ready for crunch times, no matter what. This is never simple.

If everyone spent less than their income and paid bills on time, it would make a huge difference for having money when needed. Having extra money when needed helps you, your company, and possibly some family members get through the tough times.

Increasing your credit score will help you in many ways. If someone is looking to buy a house or car, obtain insurance, refinance to receive lower interest rates, get a credit card (to use only if necessary), or borrow money for various reasons, having a higher credit score will save you money because of being able to get a lower interest rate. It shows credibility to the financial institution looking to loan you money. They know that you have been responsible and accountable seeing your high credit score. This helps them determine that you are a good risk to repay a loan and make payments on time.

Chapter 12 (Getting Your Credit Back in Good Shape) of Credit Repair Kit for Dummies, states "Having good credit can open up doors of opportunity whereas having bad credit can close doors or at least make it harder to get through them. Getting your credit back in good shape is, therefore, something you want to do as quickly as possible. "

If you have credit cards, keep in mind a few points: (1) always pay more than the minimum portion, (2) pay them all off as quick as possible-have a plan and stick to it, no matter how long it takes, (3) never have a balance that is more than 50% of the available credit- this is a big factor in helping to increase your credit score, (4) keep in mind the high interest rates-after making payments on time for a while, call and request a lower interest rate-sometimes it works, (5) move balances to a 0% or low interest rate credit card option if available-if this is for a certain time frame, only move an amount that you can pay off in that timeframe-this helps reduce your interest costs while paying off the card (check to make sure the fee is not more than what you would pay in the interest), (6) plan on not using your cards unless you really really have to.

Other things to remember about credit cards- only use those credit cards that have perks attached to them. Airline miles and points can come in handy. If you are very disciplined with your cards and pay them off monthly, these miles and points can rack up.

Don't ever think that your credit is so bad that you just give up. Start today in small ways and get into those good habits that will help you long term. Even a year of doing the right things can get you headed in the right direction.

According to Jerrold Mundis, in his book How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & Live Prosperously, he says to tell yourself, "Just for today, you're not going to incur any new debt . . .You can not get out of debt by borrowing more money."

Debbie Barker Johnson with Lone Star Credit and Debt Relief (www.lonestardebtmanagement.com) can be reached locally at 214-632-0632 to raise your credit scores. She states, "Higher credit scores means lower interest rates saving you thousands of dollars on interest."

There are some great websites with lots of good information and things to watch out for: www.consumercredit.com
    www.ftc.gov
www.debtorsanonymous (desire to stop incurring unsecured debt)
www.spenders.org (find out if you are a compulsive spender)

Manage your finances wisely and consciously - this will help to increase your credit score and give you peace of mind.

    TV Stars Gather at the
    Dallas Bridal Show

Word gets around that the Dallas Bridal Show is the best place to plan your wedding! Reality TV star, Melissa Rycroft won America's hearts on the hit shows, The Bachelor and Dancing With the Stars.

Now she's preparing for her upcoming wedding, and what better place to get everything you need in one place than the Dallas Bridal Show? Check out the article below from the Dallas Morning News!

03:00 PM CDT on Monday, July 13, 2009
    By ALAN PEPPARD
    apeppard@dallasnews.com

Dallas' beloved Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor alum Melissa Rycroft popped up Saturday at the Dallas Bridal Show at Market Hall, and she wasn't working.

She was just another bride-to-be getting tips for her upcoming wedding to Tye Strickland.

Event planner and TV personality Steve Kemble was a featured speaker at the show on Saturday and Sunday.

"Think how astonished I was when I looked up as I was giving my presentation on hot wedding trends to see Melissa Rycroft," he says. "She is one of the nicest people I have ever met, and she is gorgeous!" (And he has the iPhone photo to prove it.)

    Understanding Proper Nutrition:
    PART TWO

    (continuation from last month's article)

So now that we've been enlightened on proper nutrition lets talk about some of our more popular diets that you guys may have tried in the past.

Atkins: for instance; the Low Carb Diet does not supply enough crabs to be affective. You are not getting enough to fuel to provide your body's energy needs. After a few days you start feeling sluggish, and get cranky. This is because you are causing your blood sugar levels to drop to unsafe levels putting your body into a state of ketosis, which is what happens right before you go into a diabetic coma. This diet also causes your kidneys to work harder to process all the excess protein and it takes 4 times the water and calcium to process protein as it does carbohydrates. When you go off this diet you wind up gaining even more weight because overall while you were doing this diet you where actually robbing your muscle mass to supply your energy needs. And remember the mention of using 4 times the amount of calcium to process the protein. Hello bone density depletion. Now don't get me wrong; it does work temporarily. As a matter of fact this is the diet that body builders use to prepare for competition with the exception of all the high fat meats. However, they only follow this diet in competition phase, because it is very unsafe. And they would be putting their health in jeopardy if they followed it long term.

Bottom line; Diets don't work. Anytime you cut out a macronutrients to reduce your weight you are robbing your body of vital vitamins and nutrients. Which in the long run cause your weight loss plan to fail.

You have to burn more calories than you consume and keep track of not only what you eat but how much you eat helps you to be accountable. Your best food choices are all natural unprocessed foods, (fresh fruits and veggies) next choice being frozen fruits and vegetables and then canned. Basically shopping the outer perimeters of the grocery store is strongly suggested. Your proteins should consist of lean white meats, such as fish and chicken and lean cuts of beef are also acceptable. You can also get adequate protein from vegetarian diets by eating proper combinations of beans and leafy greens.

Women should consume approximately 16 calories per pound of body weight for basic maintenance. For weight loss you need to reduce that by 500 - 750 calories per day. Incorporating multivitamins is also in your best interest because to get all our necessary vitamins and minerals through food alone would require eating way more than most of us could possibly consume, especially if your are reducing calories to decrease your weight.

It is also important that we replenish our fuel supplies at least 4-6 times per day in order to keep our insulin levels and metabolism working properly. The longer we wait between meals the lower your blood sugar levels drop and then when we do eat again, even if it is healthy food it causes our sugar levels spike. Also; your metabolism is like a campfire, if your wait until the fire has almost completely burned out before you feed the fire and then put a big huge log on the fire you are more likely to smother the fire than if your were to continually feed it small amounts of kindling. Wouldn't you agree that all of this makes since?

    Testimonials!

We love hearing from exhibitors about how the bridal shows have changed their businesses!

    Dear Bridal Shows Inc,

What a delight to be included in your Fort Worth Bridal Show. After being on the waiting list for only 1 year, I had two weeks to prepare and I am so glad I was able to pull it together! I booked 6 weddings at the show, and am still receiving consultations 6 months later! The show is great, well advertised, and attendance was very high. The organizers are very friendly and professional; they are always there if you have a question. Thank you Bridal Shows Inc, what a wonderful way this has been to get my name in the community!

Just wanted to say again how much the 2009 March Plano Bridal Show helped us here at Wylie Video. I'd say we booked (and already have filmed 80% of) about $8000 worth of work. A pretty fantastic haul for only $1000 and a few hours of our time!! We had such a great time being there also. This will not sound honest...but it is...I got a call last week (months after the March show) from a bride who remembered us and then after a meeting, went ahead and booked with us! It keeps coming in!

That last show was our first, I'm confident we can do much more to help ourselves book brides for our video services. Very anxious for this upcoming show..

    Thank You
