We are pleased to announce that the third annual Wedding Professionals Business Conference held at the Arlington Convention Center on November 19th was a complete success!

Over 175 business professionals gathered to network, attend seminars, round table discussions, and meet vendors on the exhibit floor, all with the combined goal of growing their business.

It's only been a few days, and we are planning on doing some in-depth surveys to better plan for next year's event. However we've already received some terrific feedback! Just take a look at the few of the comments given below:

"Great Business Conference! Can't wait til next year!" Rosa Hernandez, Allie's Catering

    The Rewards of Giving

by Carolyn Brown, Weddings by Carolyn

I received a telephone call from Bebe of Bebe Interiors requesting that I coordinate a wedding for her. Of course, I would. "There was one thing I need to tell you", Bebe said ...."You have to do it for free." My answer was "WHAT". Bebe explained that this was a stage 4 breast cancer survivor and it was her 10 year wedding anniversary and she wanted to renew her vows. She did not have a wedding when she got married 10 years ago.

I met with the bride found out the things that she needed and started to work. Ruthie Stivers of Delicious Cakes supplied the cake. Andrea Porter of Circle Park Bridal provided the bride and her daughter with beautiful jewelry. Naomi Hulme of Bridal Shows, Inc gave me gift cards (I wonder how many cards were in the sealed envelope). Bebe provided the decor and flowers.

The vows were renewed and the bride with the assistance of her mother and grandmother was able to walk down the aisle to a waiting husband and unfortunately a wheel chair. There was not a dry eye in the church. I think everything was beautiful. I don't know I was crying so hard I couldn't see.

My thanks goes out to these wonderful people who gave of themselves to make this day happen. Stage 4 breast cancer is serious but we all know of people who made it to live long lives. We pray that is the case with this bride.

    Naomi's Notes: "Being Grateful"
    by: Naomi Hulme

At a time of year when we are drawn to "Thanksgiving," we can apply being grateful in every way possible. When we are grateful each day of the year, whether it's for personal or business, we will feel and see blessings every day.

We can be thankful for every opportunity that comes our way. Each opportunity gives us the chance to make a positive decision.

In the Book of the Month that is listed in this newsletter, "All About Goals And How to Achieve Them," by Jack Ensign Addington, Mr. Addington stated, "Normal Vincent Peale had this to say about the power of choice; The greatest power we have is the power of choice. It's an actual fact that if you've been moping in unhappiness you can choose to be joyous instead and, by effort, lift yourself into joy. If you tend to be fearful you can overcome that misery by choosing to have courage. Even in darkest grief you have a choice. The whole trend and quality of anyones life is determined in the long run by the choices that are made." (page 52)

We should set a daily goal and choose to be grateful each day for everything, even life's challenges. Through our valleys we grow more than when we are on the mountaintops. Then, when we are on the top of the mountain, we really appreciate what we learned along the way.

I am very thankful for everyone in my life and love all of life's challenges. We really care and appreciate all of your support and business. We are praying that each one of you have a wonderful and safe time with your families and friends during the Thanksgiving holiday.

    Vendor Testimonial

We are always so grateful for every testimonial received, especially ones that are unexpected such as the letter we received below!

I started participating in the Dallas Bridal Show 3 years ago. I have a business that I run out of my home in Red Oak TX. I design wedding veils. After doing the first show my business literally was taken to the next level. I have brides from all over the Dallas, Ft.Worth Metroplex come to me all year long from being introduced at the Dallas Bridal Show.

I love being a part of the show. It is always a positive experience with the staff. We always leave feeling encouraged. I recommend anyone in the wedding business to be a part of Bridal Shows Inc. to take your business to the next level.

In times of economic distress it is far too easy to look at the glass as "half-empty" as opposed to "half-full." Do you think it is possible that negative energy can affect your business? Is it true that positive, optimistic energy can rub off on employees and customers to create an increase in sales? Of course it is! However, knowing this is true and implementing it to your life can sometimes be easier said than done.

As "hokey" as it may seem, this is the perfect time of year to reflect on your blessings and the people and things you are grateful for. Having an attitude of gratitude will not only help lift your spirits, but that of your staff as well, which in turn is sure to impact the customer.

Take a few moments and create a list of things you are thankful for in your personal and professional life. The list can contain simple everyday conveniences such as "I'm grateful I have a cell phone that keeps track of my appointments, I'd be lost without it," or major life impacting blessings, for example: "I am thankful for having the faculties necessary for completing normal every day tasks. I am grateful for my ability and talent to (fill in the blank)."

To help get you started on your own list I have decided to practice what I preach and make a list of my own. Hopefully this will inspire you to point out the positives in your own lives.

Here is a list of things I am grateful for in my professional life:

    I am grateful for...

    1. A positive work environment.
    2. The ability to work with some of the greatest people in a fun-loving industry.
    3. The chance to help impact someone's business.
    4. Computers -- yes... love them or hate them, I'd still be a mess without them!
    5. Testimonials - both verbal and written, nothing is better than knowing your work has been valued.
    6. Working with a great team.
    7. Hearing a smile through the telephone.
    8. My desk fan and floor heater -- the blessing of working in comfort no matter what the weather!
    9. The opportunity to work in an environment that places a priority and respect on family.
    10. The chance to start each day fresh and new.

Once you've made your list, (and write it down!) you can pull it out every time you are feeling like the glass is "half-empty." Just had a cancellation? Read the list. Difficult customer? Read the list. The media tries to convince you that all is lost? Read the list!

We all have so much to be thankful for, let's not forget it.

Many blessings to you, your business, and your family this Thanksgiving.

    Motivational Message

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful."

    ~Buddha

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."

    ~Albert Schweitzer

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow."
