CHURCH CONFERENCE AUTHORIZES TRUSTEES TO NEGOTIATE PROPERTY PURCHASE

On  Sunday, July 27, after 10:25 worship, a Charge Conference was held to deal with an offer to purchase the property at the Northeast corner of Washington and Walnut Sts.  Only recently the church purchased the AFLAC building. The property involved at the Charge Conference contains the corner parking lot and the one-story office building with an overhead door area. If the church does purchase the currently offered property, we would end up owning 3/4 of our entire city block.

Added Grace
  1. No immediate plans for the use of the property is planned.  Issues discussed at the meeting were:
  2. Chuck Hefley relayed that he has contacted the Indiana Environmental Protection agency and twice was assured that there is no outstanding environmental issue attached to the property. Many older members of the church were confident that there once was a filling station on the property.  Chuck Hefley will ask for the Indiana's EPA statement in writing.  Directions were given to Grace's Board of Trustees to arrange for soil test samples to ascertain any potential hazard.Added Grace
  3. There is a need for "green space" for Grace's proposed improvements of Children's ministry.  Other recently acquired properties have committed leases attached for parking for downtown businesses. It would be easy to "swap" parking at the currently proposed  property and convert some existing parking space for outdoor children's activity.
  4. Mention was made of using the enclosed garage space for van storage.
  5. Pastor Steve disclosed that he has been informed of a pending bequest from a former resident who was touched by Grace Church years ago, as a child. Receipt of those funds is quite assured, and expected in several months.  These funds should help the Trustees with the financing issues involved.
The conference unanimously approved giving the Board of Trustees authority to pursue purchase with the sellers, conditional upon clarifying the real environmental liability issues involved.

Help Get The Family Shelter Ready For Use.

Make it happen for your city.

Ruth Lawson shared that Joe Tuckett works there pretty much every day.  And he's there many evenings as well.

If you've got some time jump in.  Call to make sure he's there.  Try his cell phone 1st... 252-9727.  If you can't get him call his home... 453-4988.  I understand he is a little hard of hearing.  He might not hear the phone.  In that case his wife could tell you if he's working.

Some of the work involves sanding floors, replacing windows etc.  The shelter is located at 320 E. Walnut.
