My President's letter usually highlights a topic that I'd like to share with local PRSA members, but our Fall/Winter 2009 program line-up is so strong, I didn't even try to top it with this month's letter. Please open your calendar and write down these dates. Free event for PRSA members: maximizing multicultural initiatives, Oct. 13
 
In a nation rich with diverse cultures and ethnic identities, using just one approach to public relations can be limiting. The Cleveland Chapter of PRSA will hosting an in-depth, professional development presentation on maximizing multicultural initiatives on Tuesday, October 13 at the Greater Cleveland Partnership, located on the 2nd Floor of the Higbee Building.

The dynamic presentation will feature Christine Clavijo-Kish, Senior Vice President, Multicultural Markets, PR Newswire, who will discuss the latest trends and positioning strategies to reach diverse communities. This program is part of national tour entitled "From Media Relations to Measurement: Maximizing Your Multicultural Initiatives in 2009," which is traveling to various PRSA chapters throughout the country.

Some of the topics that will be covered include:
  • Key facts and figures about the U.S. Hispanic, African American and U.S. Asian markets 
  • Top trends in multicultural/ethnic public relations 
  • Common mistakes that marketers make in targeted multicultural or integrated campaigns
  • Means by which ethnic groups are driving the Web 2.0 era and the dynamics that each segment brings to online communications
  • Developing and launching an effective multicultural communications strategy

Cleveland Business Connects (CBC) Magazine is looking for the Top 10 recession-proof companies in Northeast Ohio to feature in its year-ending double-issue, which will be published in mid-November.

Need help? Want to be helpful? Hire an intern for the coming fall semester. Many students are anxious to put their PR skills to the test through on-the-job experience. The Greater Cleveland PRSA internship program has applications and resumes from students looking for experience. Now, all we need are area employers looking for the need to get things done.

 Dec. 4: Save the date for Cleveland Rocks awards luncheon

The seventh annual PRSA Cleveland Rocks Awards is your chance to get to the very heart of the very best in public relations in Cleveland. Plans are already underway for this year's awards competition.

Start preparing your entry ideas now for the 31 available categories for programs and projects, including community relations, special events, media relations, newsletters and a new category, social media. A call for entries will be distributed in August with a late September deadline. Awards will be distributed at a luncheon on Friday, December 4, 2009.
