The big deal
Remember how much it meant to you? I do.
The first time I attended a local PRSA meeting it was a very big deal.
Now, more than two decades into the profession, I may not get the same "rush" I did when I walk into a chapter meeting way back when I started, but it's still a big deal.
There are dozens of PRSA chapters around the country, and at some point during this year each of their respective presidents will encourage their members to recruit public relations professionals to join our ranks. Unfortunately, most members will not act upon their president's request, and as a result, many PR professionals will go without the many benefits our chapters could otherwise offer them.
I don't hold myself out as the recruitment poster child, but I'm pleased to see those I've encouraged to join benefitting from their association with PRSA. Turns out, there are lots of professionals who simply need someone to ask them to get involved.
This month, I'm asking you to reach out to someone who is not a member and encourage them to check out PRSA Greater Cleveland. In this highly networked region, you likely know someone who isn't a member. Surely you won't do it only because the Chapter president is asking you, so I ask you to remember how you felt when you attended your first PRSA meeting. Help someone connect to a valuable network and get access to tremendous resources. Chances are they'll find it's not only a good deal, it's a big deal. Rick Batyko

Chapter passes resolution to add VP of communications
Thank you to all who voted to add a vice president of communications to our Executive Committee!
As a chapter, the last year has seen a calculated growth in the channels we use to engage our members and prospects. With this year's revamp of our website and addition of social media platforms to our communications repertoire, we saw a definitive need for the addition of an Executive Committee-level position to oversee our ever-evolving and expanding communications function.
The passage of this resolution does not add a new position to the board as the secretary/communications committee chair -- current filled by David Adams -- was already a member of the board and executive committee. But it does designate another VP-level seat on the executive committee. The new VP of communications chosen starting in 2010 will assume the lead spot in the chapter communications effort which already has a well-established committee whose members adeptly manage our website, social media tactics, publicity of events and marketing for the chapter.
The new VP of communications position becomes effective at the beginning of 2010. If you have any questions about this new role, please feel free to contact Rick Batyko at (216) 592-2225 or Kate Eidam at (216) 472-2390. |
