Looking back at 2011, we are very pleased to report three bright financial highlights:  
  • As well, 14 of our portfolio companies have already reached revenue stage.
  • Through the Maryland/Israel Trendlines Fund, a new joint venture with the Maryland Israel Development Center, that began operations in May, a total of NIS 1.2 million (~$324,000) was invested in three of our portfolio companies.
And that's just the beginning. Last year brought a number of significant developments at Trendlines. We believe that these developments bring opportunities. Read more in our 2011 recap.

Announcing Trendlines Labs, Our New In-House Invention Factory

Trendlines Labs, our newest business unit, invents products and technologies to serve unmet needs. A division of The Trendlines Group, Trendlines Labs capitalizes on Trendlines' long-standing relationships with global leaders and decision makers in our markets, combining proven experience in research, innovation, and program management. Our knowledgeable team is hand-picked from the worlds of science, medicine, R&D, and industry to bring to life ideas that will become instruments for healing.

 

Trendlines Labs is an invention factory -- originating ideas for both our internal and external use. Some of the ideas invented by the Trendlines Labs team are developed into businesses in Trendlines' accelerators.  Additionally,  we work with strategic partners, such as major medical device companies, who seek new products that will enlarge their portfolios and revenue streams.  Trendlines Labs works closely with these companies to invent products with their particular market focus and needs in mind. To that end, Trendlines Labs is currently working on developing innovations for an international medical device company. Read the news article about Trendlines Labs (Hebrew).

Yosi Hazan

 

Yosi Hazan was appointed CEO of Trendlines Lab. He brings 25 years of expertise in general management and global marketing of medical devices, defense, and semiconductor capital equipment. Before joining the Trendlines Group in December 2011, Yosi was GM of Biosense Webster Israel, a Johnson & Johnson company. 
 

  

2nd Annual Trendlines Investor Conference

Our 2n
d Annual Trendlines Investor Conference was held January 17 at Shefayim, Israel. The half-day event featured 5-minute presentations by 23 of our portfolio companies followed by 15-minute one-on-one "speed date" meetings. Presentations were made in two tracks: medical and agritech/ cleantech/IT/security.
 
Nearly 100 Israeli, European, and American investors packed two rooms to hear about the exciting innovations from our early-stage companies. Watch highlights from some company presentations at the conference. 
 
 
From the Czech Republic to Misgav

 IT manager, and Jiří Simonek, CEO, of DAP Services. 

 

A Czech company, DAP is developing a Web-based system for diagnostics based on a person's color choices. It is calling our Misgav facility home for the next six months.

 

The Czech government chose The Trendlines Group to host eight companies over the next two and a half years. During their stay, the companies will learn about the Israeli incubator system, network with Trendlines companies and other Israeli businesses, and gain a better understanding of working on the international scene, and more specifically within the Israeli culture. DAP is the first company in the program. Daniel and Jiří arrived at Misgav on February 7.

Plans are well underway for our Trendlines U.S. Road Show, March 26-30, 2012. We'll stop in 5 cities in 5 days: Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore, and New York City. Recent Raises
Immunovative Therapies Signs $10 Million Investment Agreement

Biopharma company Immunovative Therapies recently signed a $10 million investment agreement with Novo Energies Corporation. The agreement gives Novo exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Immunovative's biopharmceutical therapies in the treatment of cancer. Read the full story (Hebrew).

 

 
NIS 1.2 Million Investment from Maryland/Israel Trendlines Fund

The Maryland/Israel Trendlines Fund made its first two investments in three portfolio companies: NovoSpeech (IT), GreenSpense (cleantech), and LapSpace Medical (medical device). The total investment was NIS 1.2 million ($325,000). The Fund is a joint investment fund of the Maryland/Israel Development Center (MIDC) and The Trendlines Group. VivoText Receives BIRD Investment

VivoText's natural speech generator was one of nine new projects awarded funding from the BIRD Foundation. The BIRD Foundation funds joint R&D projects between U.S. and Israeli companies. VivoText will be partnering with toy giant Hasbro. Read the article (Hebrew).

LapSpace Medical is developing an inflatable retractor for laparoscopic surgery. The Company is led by Assaf Livne.

 

 

ETView Files for FDA Approval for VivaSight DL

ETView has filed an application with the FDA for its VivaSight DL Airway Management System (formerly TVT). VivaSight is a disposable airway ventilation tube that provides high-resolution video of the airway during surgery. Read the full article and a follow-up article (both in Hebrew). 

 

In other news of ETView, Dr. Gal Ophir of Bioassociates, cited it as one of the "biomed companies approaching the moment of truth" in 2012. Read the full article (Hebrew). ETView is publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

 

 

FlowSense Signs U.S. Agreement with Philips Healthcare and Doctors Oxygen

FlowSense signed a five-year cooperation agreement with Philips Healthcare. The agreement relates to the development of the electronic system for the FlowSense urine monitoring system to be part of Philips's bedside monitors. Read the full story (Hebrew). 

 

In other news from FlowSense, the Company signed an agreement with Doctors Oxygen Services to market URINFO 2000, the urine monitoring system developed by FlowSense, in five states. This is the Company's first distribution agreement in the United States. Read the full story (Hebrew). FlowSense is publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

 

 

Liola Technologies CEO Featured in People and Computers
Daniel Porat, CEO of Liola Technologies, was featured in the article "Optimization on the production floor," that appeared in People and Computers (Hebrew). Dune Medical Appointment Highlighted in Mass High Tech

Flexicath Issues Patents in the United States and China
Misgav company Flexicath recently announced that its patent for its M/29 technology and integral Peelguard has been accepted. This represents an important patent and significant milestone for Flexicath.

Eran Feldhay and Nitza Kardish Appointed Corporate Vice-Presidents, The Trendlines Group
Eran Feldhay, CEO, Misgav Venture Accelerator, has been named Corporate Vice-President, Life Sciences, of The Trendlines Group. Nitza Kardish, CEO, Mofet Venture Accelerator, has been named Corporate Vice-President of The Trendlines Group. These additional titles represent Eran's and Nitza's active involvement in the general management of the Group, their senior level management experience, extensive know-how and expertise in seed-stage investment, and proven track record of industry leadership.

 

 

Jen Maidenberg Appointed Chief Marketing Officer, The Trendlines Group
In a recent appointment, Jen Maidenberg was named Chief Marketing Officer of The Trendlines Group. Jen will be responsible for leading and executing Trendlines' global marketing communications and brand strategy, organizing corporate events, overseeing marketing communications for our portfolio companies, and managing the Marketing Communications division of Trendlines Business Development. Jen was formerly the Communications Manager of Trendlines Business Development.


Welcome to Avshalom Shenhav, Model & Concept Developer, Trendlines Labs
Avshalom Shenhav recently joined the Trendlines Labs' team. He is responsible for researching and formulating concepts and developing computer models to test the feasability of new medical devices. Previously, he was involved in signal analysis and algorithm development at a number of medical device companies. Avshalom holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. His specialty is left ventricular assist devices (LVADs).

 

 

Moran Ofrat Appointed Operations Manager, Misgav Venture Accelerator 
After coordinating logistics and purchasing for the past year, Moran Ofrat was recently appointed operations manager of Misgav. In her new capacity, Moran will be responsible for all Chief Scientist-related issues, purchasing, and logistics for Misgav's companies and for The Trendlines Group.

 

 

Welcome to Shira Malka, Bookkeeper, The Trendlines Group
Shira Malka joined The Trendlines Group accounting department last month. She will be working part-time, assisting with bookkeeping-related matters for the Group. Shira is a certified bookkeeper and has a degree in criminology.
