Greetings!
It cracks me up that twinkies were invented on April 6 and yet World Health day is April 7. Isn't that ironic? In a world that is consumed with health and wellness information via magazines, tv shows, celebrity doctors, celebrity-endorsed products....we saturate ourselves simultaneously with products and activities that proclaim the divine right if not need for self-indulgence, splurging and excess and then wonder how our world ended up as an obese, cash-strapped society.
The irony of health & wellness / obesity & demise is only one such comparison that makes me crack up...only it's not funny. Here's another one....
Increasing numbers of people embarking upon their journeys of spiritual awakening in conjunction with the increasing level of violence, particularly inflicted by young persons. (What's up with a six-year-old toting a gun to school?) How are so many finding meditative practices as a means of discovering peace and joy while so many random acts of violence become more frequent, if not the norm and consistent message in every media broadcast? Remember the 60's when it was the Hippie movement, the Flower Children? Teens and young people in their 20's, who professed and practiced free love, peace, nonviolence, end to war and often did so at college campuses during a time of great civil unrest - Vietnam War, Racial Discrimination. Look at the violence on our college campuses today - shooting rampages at the hands of disenchanted youth, broken hearts, alienated young adults.
More ironies are easily identified....individual greed and self-gratification while the financial world collapses.
The issues are large. The problems are real.
Where are the answers? Who has the solutions? The solutions are in the hands of each individual. One person can make a difference as documented in The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell. In that book, one of the many accounts of individuals making a difference was the story of Paul Revere who on April 18 sounded the alert of the approaching British troops. His ride and courage went down in history. One man, one horse. We know of many other examples including Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and YOU. What difference will you make?
To your exceptional successes,
Jill Hickman

"Getting engaged in changing things is quite straightforward. If we have an idea, or want to resolve an injustice, or stop a tragedy, we step forward to serve. Instead of being overwhelmed and withdrawing, we act.
No grand actions are required; we just need to begin speaking up about what we care about. We don't need to spend a lot of time planning or getting senior leaders involved; we don't have to wait for official support. We just need to get started - for whatever issue or person we care about.
This is how the world changes. Everyday people not waiting for someone else to fix things or come to their rescue, but simply stepping forward, working together, figuring out how to make things better."

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
I've successfully completed the certification process for becoming a Certified Practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Program to further assist my clients in their leadership development plans and goals. After more than 60 years of research and development, the current MBTI assessment is the most widely used instrument for understanding normal personality differences. Because it explains basic patterns in human function, the MBTI tool is used for a wide variety of purposes including the following:
- Self-understanding and development
- Career development and exploration
- Organizational development
- Team building
- Management and leadership training
- Problem solving
- Relationship counseling
- Education and curriculum development
- Academic counseling
- Diversity and multicultural training
The MBTI program can be delivered onsite, in group and individual coaching sessions. A special program entitled The Art of Leadership, developed in conjunction with Kay Kemp of Wild Heart Art Studio, is available for our presentation onsite and/or in Kay's studio. Led by Jill in a facilitated group discussion, participants discover the elements of their MBTI results. With Kay's artistic guidance, participants produce a work of art depicting the specific components of their unique personalities. Expressing yourself through art is an incredibly creative process which yields breakthroughs in communication, productivity, and innovation - a must for today's leaders and companies!
