This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Peter Michael Winery, Sonoma

In 1982 Sir Peter Michael established the Peter Michael winery on a square mile of rocky volcanic ridges that form the western face of Mount St. Helena in Sonoma County. From the beginning, the wine growing philosophy was modeled on the French tradition infused with a few modern influences: One, the vineyard terroir would be the single most important feature. Two, the wines would be elegant rather than overstated. Three, there would be a hundred-year commitment to the development of a great estate. Given this commitment to the product, only a limited quantity will ever be made.- 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, L'Apres Midi, Not Yet Rated; $$57.00: Blended with a touch of Sémillon, no malolactic fermentation was conducted in order to preserve the fruity and zesty character of the Sauvignon Blanc.
- 2009 Chardonnay, Mon Plaisir, 93 pts., Parker; $85.00: French for "my pleasure," this super creamy, earthy wine has been produced every year since our inaugural vintage in 1987. Mon Plaisir is made exclusively from Old Wente clone fruit.
- 2010 Chardonnay, Mon Plaisir, 93 pts., Tanzer; $95.00: True to its name, the wine is indeed a pleasure: intense and perfumed. Mon Plaisir displays an exquisite bouquet of lemon cream, vine blossom, and candied grapefruit, with subtle honey notes. The palate is rich, full-bodied and creamy with beautiful nuances of stone fruits, pear, dry apricot and brioche. A mineral character with hints of pain grillé and hazelnut complete the mouthfeel of this wine and its long finish.
- 2009 Chardonnay, Ma Belle-Fille, 95 pts., Tanzer; $90.00: A core of lean citrus and vivid minerality, layered with baked apple and nectarine. The name translates to "My Daughter In-Law" in honor of Emily Michael, Paul Michael's wife.
- 2010 Chardonnay, Ma Bell-Fille, 94 pts., Tanzer; $99.00: The 2010 Ma Belle- Fille is exceptionally intense, boasting aromas of nectarine, ripe peach, tangerine blossom, dried apricot, and, golden apple accented with wet stone-like minerality, brioche and peony flower notes. Generous on the palate, rich and concentrated,
the wine displays deep flavors of William pear, honey, dried almond, meringue, dry chamomile, orange rind and notes of baked Reinette apple. In the mouth, the wine is tactile, gourmand and extremely pure. Layered and seductive, the finish is very long. - 2009 Chardonnay, La Carriere, 93 pts., Parker; $85.00: La Carrière, "the quarry," was named for its bowl shape and tremendously rocky soils. It typically offers the leanest most citrus like fruit profile of our Chardonnays.
- 2009 Chardonnay, Belle Cote, 93 pts., Parker; $85.00: Belle Côte (Beautiful Slope) the first estate-grown Chardonnay offered by Peter Michael Winery, and shows the potential of the mountain vineyards.
- 2009 Pinot Noir, Le Caprice, 94 pts., Parker; $120.00: Grown on the steepest slopes of the vineyard. The name honors the rough vineyard terroir and the fickle nature of this grape.
- 2010 Pinot Noir, Le Caprice, 95 pts, Wine Spectator; $120.00: Deep red ruby color and bright crimson tinge is the clear identifier for Le Caprice. The vineyard shows its signature characteristics of red forest fruit coupled with aromas of red cherry liqueur, currant, raspberry, strawberry, fresh leather and graphite. The 2010 vintage is refined and expressive with intense concentration in the mouth. The finish lingers both aromatically and subtly on the palate. The wine will age gracefully for a decade.
- 2010 Pinot Noir, Ma Danseuse, 93 pts., Wine Spectator; $120.00: The most feminine of our Pinots Noir bottlings, the name translates to "My Dancer" in honor of Lady Michael as she and Sir Peter met on the dance floor.

For Your Appreciation: Thank You!
Pay one penny for one bottle of Clos LaChance Sauvignon Blanc upon spending over $100.00 on any wine purchase. Normal retail price is $15.00 per bottle. Limit one purchase per family per day.

A blend of 82 percent sauvignon blanc, 15 percent semillon and 3 percent muscat blanc, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks except for 16 percent that goes into neutral French oak barrels. This is a stupendously lively and refreshing sauvignon blanc that bursts with a flurry of grapefruit and lime peel, dried thyme and fennel and hints of grass and hay. Flavors lean toward juicy pear infused with tangerine and hay and a touch of leafy fig, all ensconced in an attractive texture that neatly balances crisp acidity with moderate lushness. A trace of grapefruit bitterness makes for a bracing finish. Here's a clean, bright, tasty sauvignon blanc that will make pleasant quaffing this Spring and Summer, either as aperitif or with such dishes as grilled shrimp or ceviche.
Normal retail price is $15.00 per bottle, but you only pay one penny upon spending $100.00 on any wine purchase.
Limit one wine purchase per family per day.
Thank you for your business!

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
