Fall $1.00 Sale!
2005 Julius Wegeler Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Spatlese Mosel-Saar-Ruwar, Germany; 94 pts. Fine Wine Review, 92 pts., Wine Spectator; $56.50
The Fine Wine Review | 11.01.06 | Claude Kolm Although Wegeler's Wehlener Sonnenuhrs are showing very well in 2005, the Bernkasteler Doctor Spätlese is a notch above, as it always seems to be. The wine shows exotic spiciness in the nose and mouth with length and depth. 94 points. Wine Spectator | January 2007 | B.S. Plump and juicy, with a vivid structure setting peach, passion fruit and citrus flavors in relief. Picks up a mineral accent and piquancy on the finish. Drink now through 2018. 250 cases made. 92 points

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Assorted West Coast Reds
- 2010 La Crema, Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, 90 pts., Parker; $35.00: With chocolate brown petals, Chocolate Cosmos not only look like chocolate but have a rich chocolate smell as well - a perfect compliment to the hints of cocoa found in our Russian River Pinot Noir.
- 2009 Angela, Pinot Noir, Clawson Creek Vineyard, Oregon, 90 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $50.00: Bright and jazzy, with a few gritty tannins poking at the supple black cherry, espresso and cream flavors, which extend into the elegant finish. Drink now through 2018. 821 cases made.
- 2008 Beaux Freres, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, 94 pts., Tanzer; $73.00: Dark ruby with a slightly deeper core of purple that the 'Willamette Valley' cuvée. This wine displays a striking minerality, plenty of forest floor along with raspberry and black current fruit profile. There is more structure, acidity and tannin and it cuts a fuller more complex profile framed in a hint of creamy oak.
- 2009 Charles Smith Wines, Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, 91 pts., Wine Spectator, Smart Buy; $20.00: Good oak on the nose and deep berry aromas leading to a slightly medicinal (in a good way!) palette. A hint of floral gentility and spice round out the full body.
- 2009 Justin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles; $25.00: Justin's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is generous and easy-to-drink, with loads of ripe red and black fruits, meaty undertones and a dollop of spice. The tannins are definitely perceptible, but they give this otherwise juicy red some nice texture, perfect for fancy burgers, braises and stews.
- 2009 Justin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve, Paso Robles; $49.00: Winemaker Notes: Our deepest and most intense wine of the many dozens of cabernet sauvignon lots we make each year. We select the most dazzling and fruit-intense cabernet we have, and then mature it in French oak only, to attain a concentration and spice level unmatched by any other wine we make. Relying solely on cabernet sauvignon there is no modification from other varieties. This is a thrilling wine for the brooding cabernet fanatic inside all of us.
- 2009 Justin Isosceles, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, 95 pts., Tasting Panel; $65.00: Appearance: Dark ruby in the glass with a violet rim Aroma: An alluring, rich mix of ripe black currants and berries faceted with vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa highlights.
Palate: Full bodied, complex black fruit of lush currants, and cherry layered with licorice and vanilla spice with chocolate, roasted coffee, and tobacco. The finish is extremely long and complex, showing firm plush tannins that bring everything together making it easy to drink it now, but implying a great future. - 2007 Dunn Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 97 pts., Parker; $95.00: Muscular Cabernet that will need four or five years to peak. Concentrated fruit has brawny tannic structure. Cedar, vanilla and dark chocolate from toasty oak will integrate with bottle age. There's noteworthy intensity and focus to the flavors, then the structure amps up in the finish. Has outstanding length and pervasive earthiness and minerality. Try this in 2015 and cellar it with confidence until at least 2025.
- 2008 Dunn Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 98+ pts., Parker; $100.00: Bright, deep ruby-red. Deeper and riper on the nose than the Napa Valley bottling, showing brooding aromas of blackberry, cassis, tar, minerals and licorice. Rich and deep but extremely backward and youthfully imploded; a step beyond the Napa bottling in texture and depth, not to mention inner-mouth perfume.

For Your Appreciation: Thank You!
Pay one penny for one bottle of Clos LaChance Oak Free Chardonnay upon spending over $100.00 on any wine purchase. Normal retail price is $15.00 per bottle. Limit one purchase per family per day.

The grapes for the Glittering-Throated Emerald Chardonnay were sourced from vineyards owned by longtime Monterey County grape grower Scheid Vineyards. Riverview Vineyard (Soledad): Located two miles east of Soledad and adjacent to the Pinnacles, this 215-acre vineyard is nestled on a bench overlooking the Salinas River. It is an ideal Chardonnay growing location-the bench creates excellent air flow and the southwestern exposure maximizes available sunlight, allowing fruit to ripen slowly and evenly. Aromas open with crisp green apples, pears, and bright citrus such as lemon and pineapple. Notes of peach cobbler, honey and a subtle grassiness follow. A strong pallet weight with flavors of fresh citrus and tropical fruits are upheld by a bright acid backbone. This refreshing, unoaked Chardonnay will pair well with fresh grilled fish and vegetal dishes, and can even stand up to spicy, blackened chicken.
Normal retail price is $15.00 per bottle, but you only pay one penny upon spending $100.00 on any wine purchase.
Limit one wine purchase per family per day.
Thank you for your business!

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
