2009 Lail Vineyards, Sauvingon Blanc, Blueprint, Napa Valley, 91 pts., Tanzer & 91 pts., Wine & Spirits; $45.00

From their website: "Born in a single vineyard in St. Helena and produced with a focus on preservation of aromatics and acidity through stainless steel living, the result is brilliant beyond our grandest expectations when we conceived of this new sibling white wine to our Blueprint Red bottling. Our Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc has a delicate pale straw robe, an elegant and intense floral perfume (geranium, melon and lime), and crisp fruit flavors with profound richness and length."

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features!
Odds N' Ends Reds

  • 2010 Layer Cake, Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina; $16.00: The wine is a classic, rich with black fruits, cocoa, hints of tobacco and leather melding seamlessly with traces of minerality from the alluvial stones the vines thrive in graced by a constant supply of glacial melt
    water.
  •  2010 Castello Banfi, Centine, Tuscany; $13.00: Colour: pale yellow. Bouquet: very fruity, with the typical varietal notes of Pinot Grigio, well combined with those of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Notes of pear, apricot, lime and tomato leaves. Taste: dry, with good acidity well balanced by a large softness.
  • 2008 Antinori, Villa Antinori, IGT, Tuscany, 90 pts., Parker; Was $24.00, Now $20.00: Black cherries, smoke, licorice and tar are some of the notes that emerge from this powerful entry-level red. A long, intense finish rounds things out nicely. Villa Antinori is predominantly Sangiovese, with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
  • 2009 Descendientes de Jose Palacios, Petalos del Bierzo, Spain, 93 pts., Wine Spectator, #26 Top 100 2011; $25.00: This white Rhone blend displays varietal characteristics of Marsanne and Viognier; vibrant floral aromas of citrus blossom and jasmine are followed by elegant flavors of ripe stone fruit, hints of pear, pineapple and honey overtones.
  • 2010 Orin Swift Cellars, The Prisoner, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 1.5 Litre; $95.00: Predominantly Zinfandel with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blended in, it's up there with the best California Zins that cost twice as much. This blends the lush berry flavors of Zinfandel, the power and concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dark black fruit of Syrah, the intensity and structure of Petite Sirah, the flesh of Charbono, and a hint of Grenache - all combined for a decadent wine with great complexity.
  • 2008 Switchback Ridge, Petite Sirah, Peterson Family Vineyards, Napa, 95+ pts., Parker; $60.00: When it comes to Petite Sirah, wine drinkers tend to fall into two categories: those who love Petite Sirah, and those who don't. Petite Sirah is kind of the anti-Pinot: brawny, muscular, always looking to pick a fight. It's a fruit-jam bomb with an added shot of black pepper. And nobody does it better than Bob Foley over at Switchback.
  • 2009 Switchback Ridge, Merlot, Peterson Family Vineyard, Napa, 94 pts., Wine Spectator, Highly Recommended; $60.00: Rich, layered and well-structured, with floral red currant aromas and complex flavors of black cherry, anise and toasty spice that lead to big but ripe tannins. Drink now through 2018.
  • 2010 Seghesio Family, Zinfandel, Home Ranch, Alexander Valley; $42.00: Blackberry, raspberry and other brambly fruit characteristic of Alexander Valley. "Graham crust" undertones typical of our Home Ranch terroir. Subtle hints of oak, briary acidity and soft, ripe fruit tannins.
  • 2009 Justin, Justification, Proprietary Red, Paso Robles; $47.00: Bright red cherry, with darker cassis and berry notes at the beginning. Sustained fruit with dusty tobacco, vanilla and licorice in the mid palate.

The grapes for the Glittering-Throated Emerald Chardonnay were sourced from vineyards owned by longtime Monterey County grape grower Scheid Vineyards. Riverview Vineyard (Soledad): Located two miles east of Soledad and adjacent to the Pinnacles, this 215-acre vineyard is nestled on a bench overlooking the Salinas River. It is an ideal Chardonnay growing location-the bench creates excellent air flow and the southwestern exposure maximizes available sunlight, allowing fruit to ripen slowly and evenly. Aromas open with crisp green apples, pears, and bright citrus such as lemon and pineapple. Notes of peach cobbler, honey and a subtle grassiness follow. A strong pallet weight with flavors of fresh citrus and tropical fruits are upheld by a bright acid backbone. This refreshing, unoaked Chardonnay will pair well with fresh grilled fish and vegetal dishes, and can even stand up to spicy, blackened chicken.

Normal retail price is $15.00 per bottle, but you only pay one penny upon spending $100.00 on any wine purchase.

Limit one wine purchase per family per day.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
