2009 Treana, Proprietary Red, Paso Robles; $45.00.
92 pts., Suckling, 91 pts., Tanzer

The goal of Treana Red is to deliver, vintage after vintage, the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in Paso Robles. Blended with Syrah for a complete, mouth-filling experience, Treana Red is crafted to keep company with any wine from any region at any price point on the world stage.

The result is a wine somewhere between Napa and Bordeaux, a full-throated, luxurious wine but one with finesse as well. "We walk the fine line all California winemakers walk," says winemaker Austin Hope, "aiming for wine that's not over the top, not all lushness, but with some grace and elegance.  The proof is in the bottle.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features!
Grenache & Syrah

  • 2010 Layer Cake, Shiraz, South Australia; $16.50:
Winemaker's notes: The 2010 Layer Cake Shiraz is outstanding due to virtually perfect growing conditions and rigorous vineyard selections. The wine is incredibly layered and richer than in past years. Bold spice, black plums, dark chocolate, mocha and cherries and black berries abound with a hint of red soil and a faint trace of anise with layers of spice box.
  • 2010 Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier, Shiraz-Viognier, Victoria, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $18.00: A spicy Shiraz from the vineyards of Central Victoria brightens with a boost of Viognier for aroma and balance, as often practiced in France's most highly regarded appellation of the Northern Rhone Valley, Côte Rôtie.
  • 2009 Austin Hope Winery, Grenache, Paso Robles, 92 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $30.00: This small production Grenache displays a true balance of elegance and structure. The fruit is dense and concentrated; mostly due to the Paso Robles heat I'm sure. But there are delicate floral notes as well as hints of nutty spice and anise that make this wine really well rounded.
  • 2010 K-Vinters, Syrah, Pheasant Vineyard, Wahluke Slope; $40.00: What's that smell?! Syrah! Ribbons of mineral snake through a palate of crushed purple fruit, sandalwood and spice. Delicious Washington Syrah. -Charles Smith
  • 2010 K-Vintners, Syrah, The Beautiful, Walla Walla; $68.00: First word - DEEP. Second word - FULL. Third word - COMPLEX. Layer upon layer of spice box, cool ash, camphor and sweet earth. Final word - BEAUTIFUL!
  • 2010 Orin Swift Cellars, D 66, Grenache, Vins de Pay des Cotes Catalanes; $43.00: The wine has a very dark, opaque red color with subtle aromas of toasted oak, ripe blueberry jam and dried rose petal. The entry is mouth coating and lush. Opulent plum and ultra ripe cherry are balanced with asian spices and a bright vein of minerality and acidity that give great structure, weight and balance to the long finish.
  • 2009 Kongsgaard, Syrah, Hudson Vineyard, Napa Valley, 97 pts., Parker; $205.00: A huge wine with tons of depth to the fruit in a dark, brooding style. Game, ash, licorice and a host of other varietal aromas and flavors emerge from this extroverted, impeccable wine."
  • 2009 Chateau de Beaucastel, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 96 pts., Wine Spectator; $89.00: "One of the more endowed 2009s, this is packed with dark smoldering cocoa, mesquite, tobacco and roasted fig notes, all inlaid with pure cassis and plum preserves fruit flavors. Long and authoritative on the finish, with singed vanilla bean and tar notes adding length and dimension. Best from 2015 through 2026."
  • 2009 Rene Rostaing, Cote-Rotie, La Landonne, 95 pts., Wine Spectator; $160.00: Stylish, with tobacco, white pepper and olive notes up front, followed by a medium-weight core of mulled cherry and damson plum fruit. Hints of cherry pit and blood orange frame the lightly firm finish.
  • 2009 Rene Rostaing, Cote-Rotie, Blonde, 95 pts., Wine Spectator; $175.00: Focused, with good peppery drive pushing the tobacco, mulled currant and sandalwood notes. A tangy grilled herb edge helps extend the medium-weight finish, which has nice underlying grip.

For Your Appreciation: Thank You!

Pay one penny for one bottle of Chateau Bonnet, Bordeaux Blanc or Rouge upon spending over $100.00 on any wine purchase. Normal price is $14.00 per bottle.

The vineyards of Chateau Bonnet were planted during the 16th century, by the Reynier family, wealthy merchants from Libourne. In a mere 30 years, the landscape around the house was transformed, as vines replaced forest on the surrounding slopes. Château Bonnet lies to the North of the Entre-Deux-Mers, on the clay-chalk slopes of the commune of Grézillac, overlooking the Dordogne valley some 10km south of Saint Emilion. The estate dates back to the 17th century; when André Lurton took over in 1956, it comprised 30 hectares of vineyard, which he immediately undertook to renovate and develop.

Normal retail price is $14.00 per bottle, but you only pay 1 penny upon spending $100 on any wine purchase.

Limit one wine purchase per family per day.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
