Summer $1.00 Sale!
- 2009 Bertani, Due Uve, Pinot Grigio & Sauvignon, Veneto; $20.00: The name (pronounced Do-Ay OO-vay) means "two grapes," which aptly describes this innovative estate-bottled blend of Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Pale straw, with lively green reflections. Assertive and well-defined. Nuances of elderflower combined with hints of peach and apricot. Medium-bodied and well-balanced.
- 2008 La Scolca, Gavi dei Gavi Black Label, Piedmonte; $50.00: Pale straw color, with delicate greenish highlights. Intense fruit and floral fragrance. On the palate it is strongly typical of Gavi: fruity and flinty with notes of almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts lingering in the finish.
- 2006 E. Guigal, Hermitage Ex-Voto Blanc, Northern Rhone, 95 pts. Wine Spectator, 95 pts. Parker, 94 pts. Tanzer; $200.00 - Reviews:
Robert Parker 96 Points: An outrageous wine, the 2005 Hermitage Ex-Voto blanc boasts extraordinary pineapple, lychee nut, white peach, floral, crushed rock, and quince notes in its full-bodied, powerful, mouth-coating peoak for 18 months. Nine thousand bottles were produced in 2005. It will have at least three decades of ersonality. A blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne, it was aged in new volution.
Wine Spectator 97 Points: This shows stunning purity and range of flavors, with blanched almond, chamomile, green fig, persimmon and apricot notes all weaving around a core of heather honey and brioche. The long finish resonates with minerality. Best from 2010 through 2025. 500 cases made. -JM
International Wine Cellar 96 Points: Light yellow. Kaleidoscopic bouquet of singed orange, musky herbs, potpourri, brown butter, smoky minerals, tarragon and fresh bay. Weighty citrus and dried pit fruit and cherry(!) flavors are complicated by candied licorice, botanical herbs and toasted grain, completely saturating the palate. This has the texture of a red wine, and some of the same flavors too, but there's also striking finesse and clarity. The finish clings endlessly, repeating the smoke and mineral notes.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Summer Wines for Arizona
- 2011 Pine Ridge, Chenin Blanc-Viognier, California; $12.00:The 2011 bottling of this distinctive blend opens with a dazzling spectrum of fruit and floral aromas, from crisp white peach, honeyed pear and sweet mango, to touches of fresh jasmine blossom and white chai tea. Filled with bright and juicy fruits, the palate flaunts flavors of succulent white nectarine, candied pineapple, green fig and subtle grapefruit. The crisp and slightly off-dry flavor profile lasts well through the clean and refreshing finish.
- 2010 Hogue Cellars, Riesling, Genesis, Columbia Valley, 92 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $16.00: Irresistible from the get-go, this fragrant wine offers up inviting aromas of citrus, stone and exotic tropical fruits. Flavors of ripe peaches, brightened with vivid acidity, keep it in perfect balance. The 1.4% resudual sugar is barely noticeable; the finish lingers gracefully and refreshes the palate, inviting the next sip."
- 2011 Carol Shelton, Rendezvous Rose' Mendocino & Sonoma Counties, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $17.00: Light cranberry color, juicy strawberry-watermelon fruit aromas, nice mineral, hint of pink grapefruit. Refreshingly crisp and dry. Great with almost any food, from sushi to salmon to barbecue.
- 2009 Mount Eden Vineyards, Estate, Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains, 94 pts. Wine Spectator; $59.00: "At first, this teases, fresh and snappy, displaying lively acidity and zesty citrus, green apple and pear notes. Turns pithy mid palate, but the flavors pour though on the finish, adding mouthwatering touches of light oak and mineral. Should only get better. Drink now through 2025"
- 2010 Shafer Vineyards, Chardonnay, Red Shoulder Ranch, Carneros, 90-92 pts. Parker; $53.00: "The 2010 offers lush, luxurious aromas and flavors of melon, honeysuckle, apricot, pineapple and flint all held together with bright acidity, good structure and elegant balance," says Shafer Winemaker Elias Fernandez.
- NV Santa Margherita, Prosecco, Brut Valdobbiadene, DOC, 91 pts. Wine & Spirits; $19.75: The texture of this wine deftly balances the richness of ripe stone fruit with the grip of fruit skins, like apple and apricot. A hint of white pepper adds subtle complexity, while the finish feels fresh and elegant. Try it with toasted almonds.
- NV Santa Margherita, Brut, Rose', Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy; $28.50: Chardonnay and Prosecco blended with a touch of Malbec for color.
- 2008 Schramsberg, Rose', Brut, Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino-Marin, 93 pts. Wine Enthusiast; $38.00: Schramsberg Brut Rosé is flavorful, complex and dry, making it both versatile with food and delicious by itself as an apéritif.

For Your Appreciation: Thank You!
Pay one penny for one bottle of Chateau Bonnet, Bordeaux Blanc or Rouge upon spending over $100.00 on any wine purchase. Normal price is $14.00 per bottle.
The vineyards of Chateau Bonnet were planted during the 16th century, by the Reynier family, wealthy merchants from Libourne. In a mere 30 years, the landscape around the house was transformed, as vines replaced forest on the surrounding slopes. Château Bonnet lies to the North of the Entre-Deux-Mers, on the clay-chalk slopes of the commune of Grézillac, overlooking the Dordogne valley some 10km south of Saint Emilion. The estate dates back to the 17th century; when André Lurton took over in 1956, it comprised 30 hectares of vineyard, which he immediately undertook to renovate and develop.

Normal retail price is $14.00 per bottle, but you only pay 1 penny upon spending $100 on any wine purchase.
Limit one wine purchase per family per day.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
