This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! New Imports
- 2010 Attems, Sauvignon Blanc, Venezia-Giulia, 91 pts., Wine Spectator; $19.00: Attems Sauvignon Blanc boasts a quite distinctive, very complex bouquet. In color it appears a straw yellow, typically with greenish highlights. Its palate exhibits crisp, tangy acidity and full flavors.
- 2010 Pascal Jolivet, Sancerre, Loire Valley, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $26.00: This wine is powerful and presents a perfect balance. Match this with fish dishes, shellfish and goats' cheeses' will prove to be a compelling match, demonstrating the full expression and minerality of this Sancerre.
- 2010 Pascal Jolivet, Pouilly Fume, Loire Valley; $26.00: A wine with dazzling character, high minerality, rich, elegant and full of finesse. Seafood, crustacea, fish and goats' cheese will match wonderfully with this classic wine.
- 2009 Antinori, Chardonnay, Cervaro della Sala, Umbria IGT, 91 pts., Parker; $53.00: Cervaro expresses an intense fragrance with aromatic notes of citrus, pears, and acacia flowers, which blend with hints of vanilla to heighten the wine's complexity. It is full-flavored and well-structured, with sweet notes of butter and hazelnut, while simultaneously persistent and minerally. The wine is intended for evolving and aging well in the bottle.
- 2006 GAJA, Conteisa, Nebbiolo DOC, 94 pts., Parker; $250.00: Conteisa gets its name from the medieval "conteisa," or quarrel, between the zones of La Morra and Barolo over the prime vineyard land of Cerequio. This dark garnet red wine gives you fistfuls of flowers on the nose, along with rich notes of spicy, freshly crushed red berries, earth and chocolate. The same flavors follow on the full, concentrated palate with smooth tannins leading into a finish so long it'll seem to stretch to infinity.
- 2007 GAJA, Sperss, Nebbiolo DOC, 97 pts., Parker; $300.00: Sperss stands out like a beacon, power but maturing aromas bring out nebbiolo character, tar, tea, earth, drying chewy tannin mixed up with high complementary acidity.
- 2009 Achaval-Ferrer, Malbec, Finca Mirador, Mendoza, Argentina, 96 pts., Parker; $115.00: "The 2009 Finca Mirador was sourced from vines planted in 1921 and yields of 0.9 tons per acre. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports a captivating nose of sandalwood, exotic spices, espresso, lavender, black cherry, and black raspberry. Layered on the palate with a velvety texture, it conceals enough structure to evolve for at least 3-4 years. This nicely proportioned effort will deliver prime drinking from 2015 to 2029."
- 2009 Achaval-Ferrer, Malbec, Finca Bella Vista, Mendoza, Argentina, 98 pts., Parker; $117.00: "The 2009 Finca Bella Vista was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1910 giving a miserly yield of 0.75 tons per acre. It displays slightly blacker fruit, a bit more depth and opulence, and a finish that seems endless. Give it 5-6 years of cellaring and enjoy it from 2016 to 2029+."
- 2009 Achavel-Ferrer, Malbec, Finca Altamira, Mendoza, Argentina, 99 pts., Parker; $120.00: "Even better is the brooding 2009 Finca Altamira sourced from vines over 80 years of age with yields of 0.75 tons per acre. Purple/black in color with a spectacular aromatic array of black fruits and spices that jump from the glass, this rich, opulent, beautifully proportioned Malbec sets the bar for what can be achieved with old vines, low yields, and craftsmanship in the cellar."

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
