Just a hint of malolactic and just a hint of oak add additional layers and depth. Pineapple and citrus peel are right there in the wine's aromatics, with lemony pear fruit on the palate, and a brisk cleansing minerality on the finish..." Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Winter Whites
- 2010 D'Alfonso-Curran, Grenache Blanc, Santa Ynez; $21.75: The 2009 Grenache Blanc from D'Alfonso-Curran Wines in the Santa Ynez valley is lush, creamy and tart. It tastes like a juicy green apple and was very refreshing. It's a wine to consider when you want to go for something tasty and out of the ordinary.
- 2010 Gundlach-Bundschu, Gewurztraminer, Estate, Sonoma Coast, 90 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $23.00: "A very nice example of a dry Gewurtz. Name an exotic spice, and you'll find it here, especially cinnamon. The fruit is all about oranges, pears and lychee, while acidity is brisk and fine. Will challenge home chef and sommelier pairing talent. Pork and stewed fruit come to mind". EDITOR'S CHOICE. -Steve Heimoff
- 2009 Ridge Vineyards, Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate, Parker, 95 pts.; $40.00: "The 2009 Chardonnay Estate is an impeccable, classy wine layered with bright citrus, flowers and just a touch of sweetness from the oak. Crushed rocks and lime peel add complexity on the textured, long finish. In 2009 none of the blocks were designated for the Monte Bello bottling, all of the fruit went into the Estate. This is a stunningly pure wine from Ridge. I came back to the 2009 Estate after having tasted all of the reds and the wine showed beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019."
- 2009 Peter Michael, Chardonnay, Mon Plaisir, Sonoma, 94 pts., Parker; $85.00: "The 2009 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir (1,875 cases produced; 15.1% alcohol) offers exotic pineapple and mango fruit along with a medium to full-bodied style." (02/11) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This displays a rich, enticing mix of green fig, white peach, apple, melon and smoky oak flavors, leading to a full body. Intense and concentrated, this ends with a smoky, figlike aftertaste. Drink now through 2018."
- 2009 Peter Michael, Chardonnay, Ma Belle Fille, Knights Valley, Sonoma, 95 pts., Tanzer; $90.00: "...Like its siblings, it is made from the old Wente clone of Chardonnay that supposedly came from Louis Latour's holdings in Corton-Charlemagne. From the estate's highest elevation vineyard in Knight's Valley, it exhibits abundant minerality intertwined with notes of spring flowers, quince, white currants, peaches and underripe apricots. This beautiful, medium to full-bodied Chardonnay should drink well for 5-7 years."
- 2009 Louis Jadot, Puligny-Montrachet; $75.00: The wines of Puligny-Montrachet are generally characterized by greater firmness and depth than those of Meursault, and by greater refinement and delicacy than those of Chassagne. Maison Louis Jadot vinifies the production of several growers in the commune with which its holds purchase agreements based on the quality of the fruit from harvest to harvest. A traditional vinification in oak casks, the age and origin of which are determined according to the qualities of the vintage, is carried out to enhance the full-fruited depth and seductive bouquet, marked by distinct notes of ripe peaches, for which Puligny-Montrachet is famous.
- 2009 Louis Jadot, Chassagne-Montrachet, Morgeot, Clos de la Chapelle, 93 pts., Tanzer; $90.00: A very well balanced wine, full bodied, powerful and rich. Its develops aromas of white fruits flesh as well as white flowers and honey. It should be kept for special meals like foie gras, fish in cream sauces, shellfish and white meats in rich sauces.
- 2009 Louis Jadot, Corton-Charlemagne, Domaine des Heritiers, Grand Cru, 96 pt., Parker; $170.00: "The 2009 Corton-Charlemagne is striking. An expressive, open bouquet leads to expressive fruit in this large-scaled, impeccable Corton-Charlemagne. Hints of crushed rocks and slate appear on the mid-palate, propelling the wine towards a rich, explosive finish. The Corton-Charlemagne impresses for its dazzling purity and exceptional harmony. The oak is beautifully integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2016+."
- 2009 Domaine Joseph Drouhin, Batard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, 92 pts., Tanzer; $400.00: "Tasting a wine of this stature is always cause for emotion. The golden colour has bright reflections. After some aeration, the aromas reveal their rich intensity: grilled bread, almond, honey, exotic wood...What is striking is the structure of the wine, its "monumental" grandeur. There is even a touch of tannin that provides an added dimension. A voluptuous finale, seemingly without end, with precious notes of preserved and ripe fruit."

The Zinfandel at Korte Ranch was planted about 100 years ago during the administration of Theodore Roosevelt. Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
