- 2007 Sanford Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills, 93 pts., Nat Decants; $39.00: Winemaker's notes: The 2007 Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend from our estate vineyard, La Rinconada, and the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard next door. A mix of vineyard blocks and several different clones give this wine added complexity. The wine is deep violet red in color and is bursting with black cherry and plum, pepper and sage on the nose. The palate delivers dusty berry flavors framed nicely by bright acidity and supple tannins. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00
- 2007 WillaKenzie Estate, Pinot Noir, Emery, Willamette Valley, 90 pts., Parker; $45.00: "Light and fragrant, with a pleasant waxy edge to the cherry and blackberry flavors, lingering on the refined, expressive finish. Drink now through 2014. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Italian Favorites
- 2008 Peter Franzus, Zinfandel, Brandlin Vineyard, Napa Valley, 94 pts., Wine & Spirits; $39.00: The wine has a depth, focus, structure, and complexity uncommon in Zinfandel, the hallmark of the Brandlin Vineyard. This 2008 is a seductive, voluptuous, and seamless wine with a long and smooth finish. Tannins are supple with no hard edges. Aging in French oak adds another layer of complexity and elegance.
- 2009 Revolver Wine Co., Cabernet Franc, The Fury, Napa Valley; $50.00: This is now coming into its own. Look for amazing character from this wine right from the first aroma-- violets, blackberry, and sweet herbs are a very intriguing lead into a depth filled pallet balanced by slightly toasted oak and moderate tannins. Wonderful legnth, acidity, black fruit and while not a small wine, it's balanced and with the right food, really sings!
- 2008 Switchback Ridge, Petite Sirah, Peterson Family, 95+ pts., Parker; $60.00: "...exhibits a black/purple color and smells like blood from a vine with notes of graphite, camphor, blackberry and blueberry liqueur. Viscous and thick with over the top richness and wonderfully sweet tannins, this is an extraordinary, profound Petite Sirah to drink over the next 25 years."
- 2008 Flora Springs, Proprietary Red, Trilogy, Napa, 94 pts., Wine Enthusiast; Was $65.00, Now $50.00 : "It is hard for us to contain our excitement over the release of the 2008 Trilogy. It exhibits all of the classic Trilogy attributes with a lovely cassis and cherry bouquet as well as huge black fruit flavors that envelope the palate. However, the layers of flavor go beyond anything we have previously crafted and the mouth-feel is wonderfully lush and polished."
- 2008 Rubicon Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, CASK, Rutherford; $75.00: "Cask" is Rubicon Estate's tribute to the style of Rutherford Cabernet produced by Inglenook Winery in the 1940's, when it was regarded as the best in Napa Valley. This 100% estate Cabernet is aged for two years in American oak prior to release. It reveals a nose of currant, cherry, and earth. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with suave tannins, layers of creamy fruit and spice, and scents of tobacco and cedar on the finish.
- 2007 Pahlmeyer, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 96 pts., Parker; $112.00: Winemaker's notes: The 2007 Proprietary Red is at once restrained yet complex. Composed and intensely focused, it exhibits layer after layer of blackberry, cassis, anise, sweet cocoa, black cherry, blackberry preserves, extract, tar and cola. On the palate it is dense and concentrated with great weight and structure. Each layer lingers on and on. This wine is exceptional now and will only open further with time.
- 2006 Bond, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pluribus, Napa Valley, 96 pts., Tanzer; $325.00: 96 points Stephen Tanzer: "Saturated bright ruby. Black fruits, mocha and a whiff of truffle on the rather clenched, slightly porty nose. Plush, sweet and large-scaled, but with almost surprising vinosity giving shape to the flavors of dark berries, coffee, mocha and iron. A huge wine with outstanding palate-staining persistence. The major tannins spread out to saturate every square millimeter of the palate."
- 2006 Bond Cabernet Sauvignon, Vecina, Napa Valley, 95+ pts., Parker; $325.00: 95+ points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Vecina has turned out even better than I expected last year. Graphite/lead pencil notes intermixed with hints of burning embers and charcoal, an opaque purple color, and sweet blackberry and roasted espresso notes are all present in this wine, which is masculine, muscular, tannic, but incredibly well-endowed and a potential candidate for 30 years of aging. This wine needs 4-5 years of cellaring and should last three decades."
- 2010 Orin Swift Cellars, The Prisoner, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 3 Litre; $300.00: Orin Swift's Proprietary Blend The Prisoner has become the stuff of legend for many of us in the industry. We can never get enough - it always sells out - and (most importantly) the juice in the bottle is fantastic year in and year out.

The Zinfandel at Korte Ranch was planted about 100 years ago during the administration of Theodore Roosevelt. It has lived through the Bolshevik revolution, the Red Scare and the dissolution of the USSR. These vines have coexisted with men on the moon and survived the invention of LSD, MTV, Velveeta and Cool Whip.
This 40 acre parcel just north of St. Helena is owned by Hal, Jack and Kathy Pagendarm. Hal's grandfather owned and operated the Korte Ranch Winery before Prohibition. Up on the hill are the crumbled remains of a stone cellar and house where the original Korte Winery was located. Periodic Elvis sightings are reported by the locals.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
