This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! California Reds
  •  2009 Sea Smoke Cellars, Pinot Noir, Southing, Sta. Rita Hills; $70.00: Seductive nose exhibits fresh leather, rose water, black cherry, violets and hint of macerated cherry. The fine tannins and minerality are enhanced by the estate vineyard's cool climate acidity.
  • 2009 Sea Smoke Cellars, Ten, Sta. Rita Hills; $95.00: Brooding and intense. Aromas begin with notes of chocolate cake, dried blueberry and lavender, then cassis and dusty black berries. Firm, mature tannins are followed by a long, velvety finish.
  • 2008 Williams Selyem, Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, 91 pts., Tanzer; $65.00: "The nose is redolent of blackberries, plums, toffee, and crème brûlée. The rich and full tannins accentuate blackberry and dark plummy fruit flavors, and complement the creamy, silky finish. The concentrated dark fruits and spicy flavors truly express the classic depth, complexity, and finesse that you would expect from our Russian River Valley pinot noir."
  • 2008 Williams Selyem, Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 91 pts., Tanzer; $65.00: "The wild berries, Asian spice, fresh herbs and mocha aromas in the nose exude classic Sonoma Coast characteristics. Your mouth will explode with flavors of ripe wild berries, cranberries, graham cracker, white pepper, toffee, and toasted marshmallow. Rich tannins and acidity balance out the flavors of ripe berries, citrus peel and fresh herbs. The long, rich finish completes this wonderful experience."
  • 2009 Sivas-Sonoma, Zinfandel, Old Vine, Sonoma County; $15.00: The Russian River appellation is best known for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but 9% of its vineyard acreage is planted to Zinfandel. The cool climate that makes Russian River so unique also has significant impact on Zinfandel, producing a style that has greater natural acidity than Zinfandels form surrounding regions. Combined with the region's alluvial soils and hilly landscape, this small amount of Zinfandel tends to express greater freshness and finesse, ranther than the big, bold structure of Zins form Dry Creek Valley and Lodi.
  • 2008 JC Cellars, Zinfandel, Proprietary Red, The Imposter, 91 pts., Parker; $40.00: "The 2008 Impostor is as loaded as a wine can get. Full of over-the-top dark fruits and mysterious aromatics of spiced plum, wild game, graphite and dried currant. It gains depth and traction on the finish with complex minerality and chewy tannin."
  • 2008 JC Cellars, Zinfandel, Sweetwater Springs, Russian River Valley, 93 pts.; $40.00:"Wild raspberry, with subtle hints of dark chocolate swirled in a sweet cream sauce and the obligatory briary notes, make this an organolpetic smorgasbord. Showing what a steeply planted vineyard can do in the cool climate of Russian River is what this wine is all about!"
  • 2007 Darioush, Proprietary Red, Duel, Napa Valley, 91 pts., Parker; $55.00: A spicy aromatic blend with a rich, concentrated mid palette that opens beautifully to reveal dark fruits, luscious cassis, and then finishing with deep espresso and chocolate notes.
  • 2008 J. Davies, Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain, Napa Valley, 93 pts., Parker; $84.00: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty of elegance and power, revealing a dense ruby/purple color as well as lovely black currant fruit intermixed with black cherries, loamy soil and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied and elegant as well as authoritatively flavored and rich, this blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot has tamed the mountain rusticity and offers rich fruit and floral flavors that have more in common with the Stags Leap appellation." - Robert Parker - Wine Advocate, Dec. 2010

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
