This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features! Last Call for Summer Whites
- NV Broadbent Vinho Verde, Portugal, Best Buy Wine & Spirits; $10.00: Vinho Verde, the most popular white wine from Portugal, is a deliciously refreshing, light wine. "Verde", meaning "Green" refers to the hints of lime color. It is an ideal warm weather wine, excellent for lunch and picnics, or an evening apertif. It makes a brilliant pairing with any fish, shellfish and poultry.
- 2010 Susana Balboa, Torrontes, Cafayate, Argentina, 91 pts., Parker; $15.00: Susana Balbo makes her wines in the same new facility (Dominio del Plata) as her husband Pedro Marchevsky, who is with BenMarco. Her wines are characteristically drier, more austere, more obviously structured and less user-friendly at the outset.
- 2010 Mer Soleil, Chardonnay, Silver (Unoaked), Santa Lucia Highlands; $27.50: Mineral driven nose with citrus shining through. Cement tank fermentation and aging bring out aromas remindful of the first rain of the season or a wet rock. Soft and round entry with an acid backbone informs you these grapes are grown in a cooler climate. Mid palate reveals ripe fruits such as lemons, gooseberry, and grapefruit. Finishes dry while the acid comes and goes in a balanced fashion. Laser sharp minerality carries through from start to finish on both palate and aroma.
- 2010 Caymus Vineyards, Conundrum, White Table Wine, California; $23.00: Conundrum is a California wine that is a blend of muscat canelli, muscat, sauvignon blanc, viognier and chardonnay grapes. The exact mix is proprietary, so part of the "conundrum" when drinking the wine is figuring out exactly what you're drinking. The flavor profile for Conundrum gives slight notes of peach and honeysuckle, some guava, pear and melon, with a hint of vanilla.
- 2010 Bruno Giacosa, Roero Arneis DOC, Piedmonte; 44.00: An expressive, floral bouquet melds into succulent peaches and apricots as this elegant, refined white opens up in the glass. Slightly bitter (but not unpleasant) notes typical of this indigenous grape linger on the finish.
- 2010 Cliff Lede Vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley; $25.00: Gravenstein apple and Meyer lemon greet the nose with floral, high notes of peach blossom. Pineapple and lychee are supported by fine-tuned minerality. A luscious mid-palette expands into a rich and long finish.
- 2009 Pascal Jolivet, Sancerre, Loire Valley, 90 pts., The Tasting Panel; $26.00: The juice for this wine was vinified in cold stainless steel tanks and the wine was allowed to develop slowly to acquire an elegant character. The crisp wine exhibits floral aromas as well as citrus peel, passion fruit and slate. On the palate, taste grapefruit, yellow plum, lemon, a hint of herbs, stony minerality and tangy acidity, all in perfect balance. Drink it as an aperitif or with asparagus, artichokes, sushi, shellfish, buttery seafood dishes, white meats, Asian cuisines, soups and salads.
- 2010 Domaine Vacheron, Sancerre, Loire Valley; $39.00 A vibrant and steely 100% organic/biodynamic Sauvignon Blanc from a mix of flint and chalk soils in the heart of Sancerre. Aromas suggest grapefruit zest and gunflint; in the mouth the wine is pure and fresh, with plenty of mineral energy and citrus-inspired flavors. This is classic Sancerre-limpid and clean, with lots of freshness and lovely energy.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
