Village Wine Cellar Features!
Notable California Reds
- 2008 Shafer Merlot, Napa Valley, Not Yet Reviewed; $50.00: Winemaker's Notes "2008 Merlot has a lively, perfumy nose that begins the moment the bottle is opened - delicious aromas of red cherry, raspberry, red plum, cherry kirsch. In the mouth are rich, juicy, palate-enveloping flavors of pure red and black fruit, red licorice, and hints of mint and toasted almonds. The tannins are round and smooth and part of the long, pleasing finish."
- 2008 Cinnabar Mercury Rising, Bordeaux Blend, California, 90 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $22.50: Blueberry and black cherry fragrances lead to spicy black fruit flavors with notes of toasted oak and vanilla. A large mid-palate with great ageability.
- 2007 Paul Dolan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendocino County, 93 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $20.00: "A terrific Cabernet, In fact, you could place it next to far more expensive Napa bottlings. It's dry and elegantly tannic and complex, showing blackberry, currant, violet, herb and cedar flavors that bring to mind a fine Bordeaux."
- 2006 Stonestreet Proprietary Red, Earth Ridge, Alexander Valley, 92 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $30.00: A 600-case blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot made by Graham Weerts, this beauty reveals a deep purple hue along with abundant notes of blueberries, black currants and crushed rocks intertwined with toast and earth. It possesses superb purity, silky tannins and a concentrated, intense mouthfeel. It should drink well for two decades or more.
- 2008 Girard, Artistry, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 90 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $38.00: The 2008 vintage is richly garnet in color with aromas of black cherry, ripe plum and cassis. There are also nuances of leather, toasted hazelnut and winter spices. On the palate, this firmly-textured wine offers a full-mouth feel with flavors of coffee, chocolate-covered cherries, berry tart and currants. The tannins are very well integrated, making the wine approachable at an early age.
- 2007 JR Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford, Napa Valley, 94+ pts., Parker; $59.00: "The finest Cabernet I have yet tasted from this estate, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford exhibits wonderful rich, full-bodied, textured creme de cassis, spice box and earth notes. The wine cascades over the taste buds with lots of black raspberry, black currant and cherry fruit. This spicy, full-bodied, rich, authoritative Cabernet is a sensational effort. Moreover, it should evolve for 15 or more years." (Dec. 2010).
- 2007 Chalk Hill Proprietary Red, Estate, Sonoma, 95 pts., Parker; Was $90.00, Now $70.00: "Perhaps the finest Estate Red to date is the 2007. Drink this beauty over the next 2-3 decades."

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
