Shows a structural quality and ripeness that are pure Oakville, with ultrarefined tannins, good acidity and plush, complex flavors of black cherries, red currants and licorice that go on and on into a long, spicy finish. New oak comprises 40% of the barrels, and adds beautiful notes of toast and warmth.

  The consistency of the flavors, as promised by the aromas, carries through
  to a finish that is in fact, mouth watering.
• 2006 Rudd, Oakville, Estate, Proprietary Red, 95 pts., Parker; $127.00: "The brilliant 2006 Proprietary Red Oakville Estate is a 1,890-case blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Its dense purple color is followed by a sweet nose of charcoal, scorched earth, blackberries, blueberries, cigar tobacco, and cedar. Full-bodied with a sumptuous mouthfeel as well as ripe, noble tannins, this gorgeous red can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or more."
• 2008 Chappellet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pritchard Hill, NYR; $145.00: "The most sought-after wine in our portfolio, this limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon represents the pinnacle of Chappellet winemaking, and is a testament to the elegant power and complexity of Pritchard Hill winegrowing. Like the great Bordeaux wines that first inspired Donn Chappellet, this wine is crafted by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with other classic Bordeaux varietals. The wine was aged for 20 months in 100 percent new French oak, and for an additional eight months in bottle prior to release. Grown exclusively on our rocky, mountainside vineyards, our Cabernets have consistently displayed an ability to age for several decades."

The 2007 Dominus, the quintessential model of haute couture, is pure elegance exhibiting a seamless integration of wood, tannin, alcohol and acidity as well as a complex bouquet of cedar, new saddle leather, sweet kirsch, black currant and plum fruit and a notion of licorice. Both the 2007 and 2008 Dominus should drink well for 25-30 years.
