Village Wine Cellar Features!
Notable California Chardonnays!
  • 2008 Heitz Cellars, Napa Valley; $20.00: A tempting nose of fresh citrus alerts the senses to crisp fruit flavors with just a hint of pear to smooth the edges. This is a delicious, dry wine with pleasing structure and a zesty beam of mouthwatering acidity. Underlying mineral notes add complexity as it crosses the palate building to a clean, extended finish.
  • 2008 Jordan, Russian River Valley, Was $35.00, Now $25.00:  The 2008 Jordan Chardonnay is marked by understated elegance. Bright, straw-green colored hue. The clean freshness of the nose opens up with vivid fruit aromas of green apples, pears and peach, and a touch of quince and kiwi. On the palate, similar notes are evident: bright fruits braced by crisp acidity and a lingering minerality. The finish brings the fruit, balance and finesse of this wine full circle.
  • 2008 Stuhlmuller Vineyards, Estate, Alexander Valley, 90 pts., Parker; $25.00: " Very bright yellow. Peach, pear and honey on the nose, plus a hint of dusty stone. Juicy and ripe, with a light floral touch to the peachy fruit. Turned a bit more tropical with air but this moderately nuanced midweight finishes with good length and freshness."
  • 2008 Dutton Goldfield, Rued Vineyard, Russian River Valley, 96 pts.; $45.00 : The 2008 vintage was particularly low yielding due to early season frosts, an unusual occurrence on the Rued hillside. Combined with the warm late season, the sparse crop imparted extra concentration to go with the usual lushness and tropicality of this special vineyard.
  • 2008 Nickel & Nickel, Medina Vineyard, Russian River Valley, 96 pts.; $48.00: Medina Vineyard is located in the Green Valley Appellation of the Russian River Valley. Planted in 1969, it rests on a gentle, rolling slope with a western exposure that offers good sunlight throughout the day. The 2008 Medina Chardonnay yields a tropical quality of banana and passion fruit. Hints of Muscat, minerals and lemon evolve on the natural crisp acidity that derives from the area.
  • 2008 Nickel & Nickel, Searby Vineyard, Russian River Valley; $48.00: The floral aromatics are more pronounced in the 2008 Searby Vineyard Chardonnay, which distinguishes it from our other Nickel & Nickel wines. The Muscat and mineral notes harmonize nicely with its natural orange, lemon-lime acidity, producing a very succulent blend. This combination of fruit and acidity is quite refreshing and the addition of rich, French oak creates a wine that is lively and persistent. The beauty of this wine is that it can be enjoyed upon release or it can lay down to evolve new complexities.
  • 2008 Hanzell Vineyards, Sonoma Valley; Was $70.00, Now $52.00: Color: Medium gold with deeper low lights. Nose: Juicy yellow apple, bright pear, medium brioche, baked lemon, slight minerality. Palate: Very juicy yellow apple and very bright, outstanding acidity medium to full, with a great long and again, juicy baked lemon and pear.
  • 2008 Kistler Vineyards, Les Noisetiers, Sonoma Mountain; $73.00: Green-tinged pale yellow. Complex aroma of tangerine, powdered stone and green citrus. Tightly wound and bracing throughout, dominated by its mineral side. Precise and intense with uncommon energy that lifts it from the glass. Penetrating finish coats the palette with flavors of lime and chalk in the tradition of great Chablis.

Our Winning Bid at 2010 Premiere Napa Valley  Has Arrived!
$89.00 per bottle

7th successful bid in seven consecutive years at

Premiere Napa Valley 2010 - Monticello Vineyards
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Yewell Vineyard

Over the weekend of February 21st, 2010, we attended Premiere Napa Valley 2010, the Napa Valley Vintners' Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade at St. Helena, Napa Valley, California.

We were successful bidders on 5 cases of Lot No. 101, from Monticello Vineyards which is from a single barrel of their 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be the base of their Premier Napa Valley Blend. They blended in 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, and have kept this single barrel separate throughout the barrel aging process. The two-acre Yewell Vineyard is located on Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena. They've been making wine from this vineyard for nearly 20 years and are proud to offer this special blend as part of the Premiere Napa Valley auction lot.

This offering of Monticello Vineyard by the Corley Family "Yewell Vineyard" shows off the tremendous intensity from this vineyard. Boasting a complex range of red and dark fruits, the wine also shows roasted nuts, coffee and toasty oak.

We now have this wine in the store at $89.00 per bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
