Village Wine Cellar Features!
Notable California Merlots
  • 2009 Grayson Cellars, Sensational Value, Parker; $10.00:  The 2009 Grayson Merlot exhibits a beautiful purple garnet color. The aromas show rich complexity with opulent ripe, dark fruit off black currants, blackberries and a hint of violets and chocolate oak. This medium bodied wine shows soft tannins with a finish of mixed dark fruits and a light toasty finish.

  • 2007 Sebastiani, Alexander Valley, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $24.00:  Dark crimson in color with glints of violet and ruby. The aromas display black tea, black cherry, fresh blackberry and a hint of rose petal. The extended oak aging lends notes of espresso, dark chocolate and cinnamon. The long, even ripening helped create very fine-grained tannins that are coating, yet velvety, and perfectly balanced by the juicy berry fruit and sour cherry acidity.
  • 2008 Duckhorn Vineyards, Decoy, Napa Valley; $25.00: A complex and complete expression of Napa Valley Merlot, combining bright, lifted red fruit elements with darker, more extracted layers. This depth is on display in the aromatics, where notes of Asian spice, red current, plum and blueberry crisp are supported by a subtle streak of earthiness. The palate is both velvety and balanced, with flavors that echo the aromas. These flavors are held together by granular tannins and accented by oak-inspired notes of molasses and nougat.

  • 2007 Rombauer, Carneros; $33.00: Elegant aromas of boysenberry and black cherry join with nuances of vanilla and plum. These aromas lead to a soft and supple mouth-feel, rich with blackberry and toffee flavors. Hints of spice and cranberry are supported by moderate tannins for a smooth finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine include chicken cacciatore, Cornish game hen, and parmesan risotto.

  • 2007 Duckhorn Vineyards, Napa Valley, 95 pts., Wine Review Online; $60.00: A complex blend of several individual vineyard lots, incorporating fruit from our Estate Vineyards and from top independent growers throughout the Napa Valley. The final wine is a rich and cohesive expression of the entire Napa Valley, reflecting the varied microclimates and soils of this unique appellation.

  • 2007 Carter Cellars, Truchard Vineyards, 94 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $67.00: Bright cherry on the palate with blackberry and strawberry preserves. Hints of rhubarb and spice. Well-balanced acidityand soft supple tannins. Displaying the Carter propensity for extravagant fruit, this Merlot's flavors are concentrated, abundant, and deep.

  • 2006 Arietta, Hudson Vineyards, Napa Valley, 91-94 pts., Tanzer; $90.00: Dark red. Aromas and flavors of plum, minerals and dark chocolate, plus a whiff of menthol. Very ripe, sweet and lush, with impressive depth and power for North Coast merlot. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins and a suggestion of black olive.

  • 2005 Heidi Barrett, Amuse Boche, Napa Valley; $300.00: The 2005 harvest was distinguished by the long hang time on the vines. The wine has completed fermentation and is ageing gracefully in French oak. According to Heidi Barrett, the 2005 harvest delivered some of the most 'lush fruit' she has ever worked with. We anticipate another wine of power and elegance.

Our Winning Bid at 2010 Premiere Napa Valley  Has Arrived!
$89.00 per bottle

7th successful bid in seven consecutive years at

Premiere Napa Valley 2010 - Monticello Vineyards
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Yewell Vineyard

Over the weekend of February 21st, 2010, we attended Premiere Napa Valley 2010, the Napa Valley Vintners' Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade at St. Helena, Napa Valley, California.

We were successful bidders on 5 cases of Lot No. 101, from Monticello Vineyards which is from a single barrel of their 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be the base of their Premier Napa Valley Blend. They blended in 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, and have kept this single barrel separate throughout the barrel aging process. The two-acre Yewell Vineyard is located on Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena. They've been making wine from this vineyard for nearly 20 years and are proud to offer this special blend as part of the Premiere Napa Valley auction lot.

This offering of Monticello Vineyard by the Corley Family "Yewell Vineyard" shows off the tremendous intensity from this vineyard. Boasting a complex range of red and dark fruits, the wine also shows roasted nuts, coffee and toasty oak.

We now have this wine in the store at $89.00 per bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
