 Winter $1.00 Sale!
Buy One Of These Bottles & Get the 2nd Bottle, Same Brand for $1.00
- 2008 Le Pupille, Poggio Argentato, 87 pts., Parker; Was $25.00, Now $19.00: The 2008 Poggio Argentato (Traminer, Sauvignon) is dominated by aggressive Sauvignon aromatics that come close to overpowering the wine in this vintage. Medium in body, the wine reveals pretty notes of tomato leaf, minerals and white peaches in a mid-weight style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
- 2004 JC Cellars, Syrah, A la Cave, 90 pts., Parker; Was $49.00, Now $39.00: The opaque ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Syrah a la Cave exhibits abundant quantities of black cherries, smoke, and tapenade characteristics, medium to full body, more flesh and richness than the California Cuvee, and a hint of oak. With good underlying acidity as well as freshness, it can be consumed over the next 3-5 years. Kudos to Jeff Cohn for another brilliant line-up. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
- 2004 Shadow Canyon Syrah/Grenache, Amila, Santa Ynez, 92 pts., Parker; Was $49.00, Now $44.00: The 2004 Amila is a brilliant blend of Syrah and Grenache from the Shadow Canyon and Larner vineyards. Elegant, with great delineation, flavor depth, intensity, and balance, it reveals notes of cassis, kirsch, licorice, charcoal, and subtle wood in its full-bodied, opulent, well-made yet structured personality. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. If you haven't yet gotten on the Shadow Canyon bandwagon, time is running short! Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
- 2005 Villa Creek Cellars, The Avenger, Paso Robles, 93 pts., Parker; $39.50: The 2005 Avenger (65% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre, and 10% Grenache) is a deeper ruby/purple color, wonderfully sweet, with an expansive nose of blackberries, cassis, and acacia flowers. Full-bodied, with more structure, muscle, and concentration, this is accessible now but built to hold up for 5-8 years of cellaring. The beautiful purity, the impeccable harmony/equilibrium are hallmarks of these Villa Creek wines, and this has it in spades. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
- 2006 Freestone Vineyards, Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 94 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $75.00: "A very fine, ageable Pinot that shows a feral, exotic quality that is rare, but always welcome. Grown on the true, cool coastal strip of the appellation, it's dry and crisp in citrusy acids, with intricate flavors of wild cherries, balsam, maple syrup, teriyaki-grilled beef, licorice, cola and Asian spices. Such is the tannic structure that it should evolve over the next 8-10 years." Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
This $1.00 purchase only applies to the 2nd bottle. No other discounts allowed. All sales final. No returns or exchanges. Offer good January 24th - January 30th. Offer good while supplies last. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Village Wine Cellar Features! Notable Reds
- 2006 Bodegas Lan, Rioja, Crianza, Spain, #44 Top 100, 2010 Wine Spectator, 90 pts.; $21.00: "Fresh and balanced, this red brims with cherry, spice and licorice, with light, firm tannins and vibrant acidity. The texture is generous yet delicate. Not heavy, but vivacious. Drink now through 2014."
- 2008 ROCO, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, #71 Top 100, 2010 Wine Spectator, 92 pts; $30.00: 'Bright and jazzy, with crisp tannins around a lively core of peppermint-accented raspberry. Stays light and agile as the finish revs up. Best from 2012 through 2018."
- 2007 Robert Biale, Zinfandel, Monte Rosso, Sonoma, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; Was $56.00, Now $49.75: "Although it is not from Napa Valley, I am including Biale's 2007 Zinfandel Monte Rosso from a parcel of red, rocky soils planted in Sonoma. It offers a distinctive earthy, red and black currant, and spicy-scented nose as well as a full-bodied, structured, tannic personality. It begs for at least a year of cellaring, and should evolve for a decade or more."
- 2006 Dalla Valle, Proprietary Red Blend, Maya, Napa Valley, 95 pts., Wine Spectator; $275.00: A blend of two-thirds Cabernet Franc and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2006 Maya reveals an exceptional bouquet of sweet blue and black fruits intermixed with notions of flowers, roasted herbs, and charcoal. Dense, full-bodied, and powerful, with superb richness, complexity, and potential, this is a super example of this Cabernet Franc-dominated wine.
- 3 Bottle Set: 1992, 1994 & 1996 Ridge, Monte Bello, Santa Cruz, 90 -97 pts., Parker; $725.00: First planted in the late 19th century, the Monte Bello property has long been one of the most storied viticultural sites in all of California's vast wine country, and its signature offering, the Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello, is one of the most highly-regarded wines in the world.
- 1996 Bodegas, Vega Sicilia, Unico, Reserva, Ribera del Duero, 97 pts., Parker; $375.00: The 1996 Unico is from what the Vega Sicilia team calls "an icon vintage". Medium purple in color, it emits a lovely perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, balsamic, and assorted black fruits. Elegant, savory, and intense on the palate, it has enough underlying structure to evolve for another decade and drink well through 2036.
- 2007 Bodegas, El Nido, Proprietary Blend, El Nido, Jumilla, 96 pts., $153.00: A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell from the same vineyard sites and it received the same elevage. It, too, has a splendid, nearly ethereal perfume, a full-bodied, voluptuous personality, and unrestrained power. It is a bit more structured than the Clio bottling and will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2025, perhaps longer although these wines have no track record of longevity.
- 1998 Taylor Fladgate, Vargellas, Vintage Porto, 375 ml., 90 pts.; $32.00: Inky, almost purple-black in colour, the nose is very fragrant and perfumed with attractive scents of violets and cedarwood. The palate is full, soft and velvety with rich cedar and spice flavours. Good concentration with well balanced fruit and tannins and a delicious long finish.

Our Winning Bid at 2010 Premiere Napa Valley Has Arrived! $89.00 per bottle
7th successful bid in seven consecutive years at Premiere Napa Valley 2010 - Monticello Vineyards 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Yewell Vineyard Over the weekend of February 21st, 2010, we attended Premiere Napa Valley 2010, the Napa Valley Vintners' Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade at St. Helena, Napa Valley, California.
We were successful bidders on 5 cases of Lot No. 101, from Monticello Vineyards which is from a single barrel of their 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be the base of their Premier Napa Valley Blend. They blended in 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, and have kept this single barrel separate throughout the barrel aging process. The two-acre Yewell Vineyard is located on Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena. They've been making wine from this vineyard for nearly 20 years and are proud to offer this special blend as part of the Premiere Napa Valley auction lot.
This offering of Monticello Vineyard by the Corley Family "Yewell Vineyard" shows off the tremendous intensity from this vineyard. Boasting a complex range of red and dark fruits, the wine also shows roasted nuts, coffee and toasty oak.
We now have this wine in the store at $89.00 per bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
