Same Brand for $1.00

  • 2007 Joseph Phelps, Sauvignon Blanc, St. Helena, Napa Valley, 93 pts., Wine Spectator; $30.00: This year's Sauvignon Blanc reveals aromatic notes of pink grapefruit, lime blossom, and honeydew, layered with hints of spice and caramel, creating a creamy, floral, and focused finish. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!

  • 2007 Gary Farrell, Sauvignon Blanc, Redwood Ranch, Sonoma County, 90 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $28.00: The 2007 Sauvignon Blanc exhibits bright, forward aromas of ripe grapefruit, citrus zest and gooseberry. Flavors mirror the aromas, enhanced with hints of white peach, apricot, and honeydew. The wine has a heavenly mouthfeel, with a lingering finish that's crisp and refreshing. While an ideal companion to cheese plates, shellfish, and cold vegetables, this wine will also stand up to rich, spicy Thai and fish dishes. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
  • 2006 Domaine Faiveley, Vosne-Romanee; Was $79.00, Now $60.00: This Vosne-Romanée 2006 is intriguing. The peppery, raspberry and wild strawberry notes make the nose complex and very pleasant.   The attack is rich and the wine is fleshy on the palate.  We find the red berries from the nose once again here,  harmoniously framed by the tannins.   The slightly menthol finish is full of finesse and elegance. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
  • 2006 Bodega Melipal, Malbec, Reserva, Mendoza, 90 pts., Parker; Was $47.00, Now $44.00: Melipal's 2006 Malbec Reserve spent 14-16 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. It has an expressive nose of smoke, toast, spice box, violets, and black cherry. This leads to a medium-bodied, smooth-textured, layered, succulent Malbec with plenty of spicy fruit, good balance, and a pure, medium-length finish. This pleasure-bent effort will drink well for another 6-8 years. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
  • 2004 Sottimano, Barbaresco, Fausoni, Piedmonte, 93 pts., Wine Spectator; Was $89.00, Now $69.00: The 2004 Barbaresco Fausoni is floral and perfumed, with sweet red fruit, menthol and spices on a medium-bodied frame. This beautiful Barbaresco offers superb length and elegant tannins to round out the finish. Fausoni is always the most approachable of the Sottimano Barbarescos. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019. Get the 2nd bottle for $1.00!
This $1.00 purchase only applies to the 2nd bottle. No other discounts allowed. All sales final. No returns or exchanges. Offer good January 17th - January 23rd. Offer good while supplies last. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Village Wine Cellar Features!
Notable Italian Reds

  • 2007 Zenato, Ripassa Valpolicella Classico; $31.50: The deep ruby red color of the Ripassa, and the intense yet fine aromas come from the mixture of grapes. It is full bodied, harmonic, and velvety on the palate. Recommended with grilled meat dishes, Ripassa is excellent with rabbit casserole.

  • 2001 Castello di Farnetella, Poggio Granoni, IGT, Tuscany; $29.00: A SuperTuscan Blend which refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties.
  • 2001 Fattoria de Felsina, Chianti Classico, Rancia Riserva, 91 pts., Parker; $43.00: The 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia, as always, is the exact opposite in texture, silky and smooth, savory in flavor, and with plenty of tarry red berry fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and length on the finish. Drink: 2006-2016.

  • 2005 Fattoria de Felsina, Chianti Classico, Rancia Riserva, 92 pts., Parker; $43.00: The 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is a beautifully fresh, perfumed version of this wine. It reveals a lovely core of ripe red fruit intermingled with sweet toasted oak and a winsome, attractive personality. Although the 2005 shows outstanding balance, clarity and finesse for the vintage, it remains relatively small-scaled Rancia. Still, its notable freshness should allow it to age gracefully for a decade or so. I would purchase the 2005 to drink over the mid-term, while waiting for the superlative 2004 to come around. Anticipated maturity: 2010-20.

  • 2001 Fattoria di Felsina, Chianti Classico, Rancia Riserva, 1.5 Litre, 91 pts., Parker; $100.00: Same as the 2001 above in a 1.5 Litre.

  • 2005 Casanova di Neri, Brunello di Montalcino, Tenuta Nova, 93 pts., Parker; $76.00: The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is quite a bit darker and richer than the straight Brunello. Cherries, plums, spices and French oak meld together beautifully in this silky, textured red. In 2005 the Tenuta Nuova boasts fabulous overall balance in a fairly restrained style for this bottling. Kirsch, roses and spices linger on the dark, enveloping finish. This is a terrific effort from Casanova di Neri. The Tenuta Nuova is made from vineyards in Le Cetine and Pietradonice, both located in the southern part of Montalcino. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022.

  • 2004 Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino, Vigna Paganelli Riserva, 96 pts., Parker; $97.50: The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli emerges from the glass with masses of scorched earth, leather, tar, licorice, menthol and dark fruit. The Riserva shows a touch more inner sweetness, richness and depth in its fruit than the regular bottling, plus a bit more French oak as well. For now, the Riserva is quite reticent and requires air, but with time its awesome richness and power come through in spades. This dark, brooding and authoritative Riserva from Il Poggione is simply gorgeous. Readers who don't want to pay the premium for the Riserva in 2004 need not worry; I tasted the 2004 regular bottling (twice!) while preparing this article and it is every bit as promising as my review last year suggested. In 2004 the Paganelli vineyard was harvested on the 13th of October, quite late for this estate. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.

  • 2004 Pira, Barola, Boschis Cannubi, Piedmonte, 1.5 Litre, 95 pts., Parker; $195.00: The 2004 Barolo Cannubi possesses superb depth, clarity and inner perfume, with layers of fruit, sweet spices and menthol that develop in the glass as this magical wine gradually reveals its sublime personality and remarkable texture. Well-integrated oak, ripe, silky tannins and a finish that lasts forever round out this beautiful wine, which was simply stunning on both occasions I tasted it. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Our Winning Bid at 2010 Premiere Napa Valley  Has Arrived!
$89.00 per bottle

7th successful bid in seven consecutive years at

Premiere Napa Valley 2010 - Monticello Vineyards
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Yewell Vineyard

Over the weekend of February 21st, 2010, we attended Premiere Napa Valley 2010, the Napa Valley Vintners' Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade at St. Helena, Napa Valley, California.

We were successful bidders on 5 cases of Lot No. 101, from Monticello Vineyards which is from a single barrel of their 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be the base of their Premier Napa Valley Blend. They blended in 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, and have kept this single barrel separate throughout the barrel aging process. The two-acre Yewell Vineyard is located on Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena. They've been making wine from this vineyard for nearly 20 years and are proud to offer this special blend as part of the Premiere Napa Valley auction lot.

This offering of Monticello Vineyard by the Corley Family "Yewell Vineyard" shows off the tremendous intensity from this vineyard. Boasting a complex range of red and dark fruits, the wine also shows roasted nuts, coffee and toasty oak.

We now have this wine in the store at $89.00 per bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
