Village Wine Cellar Features! Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines, 2010, In Stock
- #17, Tensley, Syrah, Colson Canyon, Santa Barbara County, 95 pts.; $40.00: "Displays gorgeous fruit, with a medley of wild berry, blackberry, huckleberry and boysenberry fruit that's pure, rich and intense, yet elegant, supple and refined. The fruit flavors are sustained on the finish, ending minerally, with fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2017."
- #29, 2006 Zaca Mesa, Syrah, Estate, Santa Ynez Valley, 93 pts.; $24.00: "The first to plant Syrah in Santa Barbara County in 1978, Zaca Mesa was at the forefront of California Rhone wines in the early days and has regained its footing in recent vintages. Of the estate's 244 acres of vineyards, 90 are planted to nine different clones of Syrah. Aged for 16 months in French oaks barrels (30 percent new), this Santa Ynez Valley bottling is one of today's best values in California Syrah. Winemaker Clay Brock was replaced by Eric Mohseni in 2008. 12,325 cases made."
- #33, 2007 Tablas Creek, Espirit de Beaucastel, Rouge, Paso Robles, 94 pts.; $50.00: The 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel is delicious and unusually approachable right now, with a complex nose of red plum, ripe cherry, fresh figs and candied orange peel, a velvety, layered palate with spicy plum and cherry fruit, pepper and nutmeg spices, and excellent breadth. The finish shows more mineral, plum, and spice, and a little gentle oak from the foudre aging. It is delicious now, if very young, and should evolve elegantly in bottle for 10-15 years or longer.
- #34, 2007 Pride Mountain, Merlot, Napa & Sonoma Counties, 94 pts.; $68.00: "Lush and rich, yet impeccably structured, with bold red currant and toasty mocha aromas and layered flavors of ripe plum, loamy earth and spice, finishing with big but ripe tannins. Drink now through 2015. Tasted twice w/consistent notes. 4,503 cases made."
- #45, 2008 Yealands, Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand, 91 pts.; $19.00: "Tight and beautifully focused, delivering a juicy mouthful of raspberry, wild strawberry and pomegranate flavors that linger on the sleek, bright finish. Drink now through 2014. 5,000 cases made."
- #67, 2007 Domaine Les Paillieres, Gigondas Terrasse du Diable, 92 pts.; $36.00: Polished and pure, with delicious layers of plum sauce, braised fig and melted licorice that glide through the dense but silky textured finish. Hints of graphite and incense lurk in the background. Long, with buried minerality. Should age nicely. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Clairette. Drink now through 2015.
- #71, 2008 ROCO, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, 92 pts.; $30.00: "Bright and jazzy, with crisp tannins around a lively core of peppermint-accented raspberry. Stays light and agile as the finish revs up. Best from 2012 through 2018. 1,680 cases made."
- #98, 2008 Bouchard, Pere & Fils, Volnay, Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee, 92 pts.; $85.00: "There's beautiful purity to the raspberry, black currant and violet aromas and flavors as this compelling red moves across the palate. There's depth and detail, with a long, fruit- and mineral-filled aftertaste. Best from 2012 through 2024".

Our Winning Bid at 2010 Premiere Napa Valley Has Arrived! $89.00 per bottle
7th successful bid in seven consecutive years at Premiere Napa Valley 2010 - Monticello Vineyards 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Yewell Vineyard Over the weekend of February 21st we attended Premiere Napa Valley 2010, the Napa Valley Vintners' Annual Mid-Winter Barrel Auction for the Trade at St. Helena, Napa Valley, California.
We were successful bidders on 5 cases of Lot No. 101, from Monticello Vineyards which is from a single barrel of their 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to be the base of their Premier Napa Valley Blend. They blended in 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, and have kept this single barrel separate throughout the barrel aging process. The two-acre Yewell Vineyard is located on Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena. They've been making wine from this vineyard for nearly 20 years and are proud to offer this special blend as part of the Premiere Napa Valley auction lot.
This offering of Monticello Vineyard by the Corley Family "Yewell Vineyard" shows off the tremendous intensity from this vineyard. Boasting a complex range of red and dark fruits, the wine also shows roasted nuts, coffee and toasty oak.
We now have this wine in the store at $89.00 per bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees
From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.
This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
