Travel Trade Show

Travel Show

Seattle Southside staff Kristina Thorne and Meilee Anderson promoted area businesses at the Travel-Trade Show hosted at Museum of Flight on January 25. The Seattle stop was part of a 45 city tour of travel-trade shows taking place around the US and Canada in 2012.

Nearly two dozen exhibitors stayed at area hotels, traveling from around the world. Travel Agents were eager to learn of Park/Stay/Fly and Pre/Post Cruise options while meeting planners picked up copies of the new edition of the Southside Meeting & Event Guide and group tour coordinators were interested in new attractions and itineraries.

Tourism News

ObamaPresident Obama trumpeted the value of travel.

President Obama gave tremendous visibility to our industry and priorities when he called for the development of a national travel and tourism strategy.

By Executive Order he called for a task force to develop for the first time ever recommendations for a strategy to promote travel opportunities throughout the U.S.

A focus of the task force will be on strategies for increasing travel and tourism jobs by promoting visits to our national treasures.

The Executive Order also charges the Departments of State and Homeland Security with improving the Visa process:

  • Increasing non-immigrant visa processing capacity,

  • Ensuring non-immigrant visa applicants are interviewed in three weeks or less; and

  • Increasing efforts to expand the Visa Waiver Program.
