Business Roundtable Talks City Finance

Business Roundtable

Friday - Shutters on the Beach
The Santa Monica Chamber's Business Roundtable, an influential cross-section of approximately thirty members, met with City Manager P. Lamont Ewell, Finance Director Carol Swindell, and other principal members of city staff. Klaus Mennekes, Vice President of Hotel Casa Del Mar and Shutters on the Beach, was present for the discussion as well, representing the host venue's seat on the Roundtable. The breakfast gathering, held in one of Shutter's warmly lit banquet halls, included the delicious food and elegant appointments one has come to expect from Santa Monica's iconic hotel.

Green Vendors
Spotlighting Green Vendors

In an environmentally conscious city, being a Green Certified business is not only a responsible practice, but a savvy one as well. After all, many patrons these days are increasingly dedicated to such matters and, consequently, seek out those businesses with high-efficiency operations, renewable resources, and other green practices.

In facilitating these efforts, along with those of residents, the chamber's "green vendors" provide products and services, such as zero-emission landscaping and high-efficiency appliances, to meet a rapidly evolving spectrum of sustainable goals. In assisting their efforts, the Santa Monica Chamber has endeavored to generate a Green Guide that will serve as the city's first comprehensive green vendor list for both residents and businesses. Currently receiving contributions and feedback from Sustainable Works and the city's Office of Sustainability and the Environment, this enhanced resource is slated to join the chamber's array of new online services in the fall.
