Greetings!

My new favorite idea is to bring my vegetables from the farmers' market to work. Radishes, in particular, make the perfect break snack--they're so zippy!

My other new favorite idea is to eat dinner, but this is neither new nor favorite. It is traditional and essential. Let's gather around our tables and sit down to the very best fresh meals that the Northwest Iowa bounty provides! Read about a special dinner in Sioux City below.

30Project Dinner Feeds Food System Visions...
30Project Dinner
...and featured bountiful good food from the region! Platters of South Sioux City Cardinal Tomatoes stuffed with goat cheese and mixed greens from the Sioux City Farmers Market, 8 minute eggs from Freedom Farms, and beets from Farmer Brown's Garden were passed around the 30-ft cedar table built by the Boul family from Norfolk, Nebraska. And that was only the second course prepared by Chef Calvin Byrd of Raspberry's Bistro, Chef Paul Seaman of Real Food, Inc, and Creative Director Micheal Hebb of the 30Project.

Sioux City was the fourth location in the United States to host 30Project, a unique nonprofit based out of New York City that brings food system stakeholders to dinners across the country to talk about visions for building a truly healthy and sustainable global food system.

With most all ingredients either organic or locally produced, the Sioux City dinner was a testament to the toasts that each guest made to their vision for better food. View a slideshow of the dinner to learn more.
A Taste of Storm Lake, Famers' Market Style
Storm Lake Farmers Market logoHow does an Italian marinated flank steak in bourbon demi glace, herb crusted pork loin stuffed with rosemary dressing, garlic roasted mashed potatoes, spring asparagus with peppered bacon and caramelized almonds, and flaming strawberries over rhubarb shortbread sound? Probably not like your average fundraising dinner! But this is farmers market style--with as many ingredients grown locally as possible. Plan to wet your appetite June 9, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Chautauqua Park shelter house in Storm Lake next Thursday. $8, first come first serve.
