Christmas on Main Street...

Immerse yourself in the spirit of Christmas with one of the Lake's favorite holiday traditions: The Main Street Music Hall's "Christmas on Main Street" show. Join Tom and Sandy Gumm, and their talented cast for Christmas carols, gospel songs, comedy and musical impersonations. It's a holiday treat for the whole family, running on select dates until Dec. 18. The show starts each scheduled night at 7 p.m. and is $19 for adults, $17 for seniors (55 or older) and $10 for children ages 5-12. Children four and under are admitted free. Christmas Parades...

The wide-eyed wonder of a child watching a Christmas parade brings joy to everyone. If you're in the mood for some holiday smiles, the Lake of the Ozarks has two colorful Christmas parades. On Nov. 26, the city of Laurie's Christmas parade of lighted floats travels down Highway 5 (Main St.) from Central Bank (101 Dogwood Blvd.) to the Laurie Mall (401 N. Main). The Laurie parade begins at 6 p.m. Celebrate the arrival of Santa Claus and his elves in Lake Ozark with the city's Christmas parade on Dec. 10, as it travels down historic Bagnell Dam Blvd. The Lake Ozark parade starts at 1 p.m., running from Al Elam Real Estate (2860 Bagnell Dam Blvd.) to Bagnell Dam. 'Tis the Season to be Shopping...

Get those Christmas list items crossed off early with a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. The area offers variety and value for holiday shoppers. Osage Beach Premium Outlets (the largest outlet mall in Missouri) has brand-name stores from "A" (Adidas) to "Z" (Zales). Visitors also can seek out smaller specialty boutiques and gift shops. With so many shopping options in the Lake area, you may want an overnight stay to get the full retail experience. DECK THE DOCKS

Festive lights will outline docks on the Lake as homeowners participate in the area's first-ever dock lighting contest. The docks, lighted throughout the holiday season, will be on special display during five Friday night cruises beginning Nov. 25 and running through Dec. 23. The two-hour cruises will focus on lighted docks between the 13 and 21 mile markers. For more information call 573-374-8849 or e-mail julz@dockrealty.com .

LAKE LIGHT PARKS

Three Lake-area drive-through light parks will brighten the holidays. All feature free admission.

  1. The earliest to open (Nov. 20) was the 18th Annual Enchanted Village of Lights at Laurie's 27-acre fairgrounds, with more than 200 displays. The village is open from 5-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 5-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and holidays. Donations are accepted.   2. Open nightly (6-10 p.m.) starting Thanksgiving Day, the 30th Annual St. Patrick's Festival of Lights is the oldest annual lights display at the Lake, located both at the Shrine of St. Patrick and the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church, in Laurie.   3. Also popular is the 7th Annual Unity Circle of Lights, opening Nov. 27 (nightly, dark till midnight) in Versailles' city park. Featuring up to 40 lighted displays, the park's Unity Circle theme highlights cooperation among those in the Versailles community. CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE

There are lots of activities for children of all ages at Camdenton's Christmas on the Square. The event features delicious food, holiday music, a visit from jolly old St. Nick, a petting zoo and much more. LAKE OF THE OZARKS EAGLE DAYS

The World Bird Sanctuary will offer live eagle programs hourly at Osage National Golf Resort in Lake Ozark. Interactive exhibits and crafts also will be at Willmore Lodge in Lake Ozark. Chances for eagle watching will be available at both the Bagnell Dam Access and The Dam Bait Shop and Campground at Bagnell Dam. For an on-the-water look at the regal birds, eagle-watching cruises will be offered aboard the Paddlewheeler Tom Sawyer. Eagle Days hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. POLAR PLUNGE

Do your part for a good cause by running into frigid waters for charity during the 17th annual Polar Plunge at Lake of the Ozark State Park's Grand Glaize Beach in Kaiser. The chilly event is all about fun for participants and spectators alike. Crazy costumes, music, on-shore activities and loads of laughs accompany this festival to benefit local athletes competing in the Special Olympics.
