Where to Find the Most Important Meal of the Day at the Lake of the Ozarks

Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. -  As the saying goes, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." At the Lake of the Ozarks, breakfast could also be considered the most delicious meal of the day, too.

Of course, with plenty of dining options at one's fingertips, there's more than one way to break the fast of the night at the Lake. For those staying at one of the Lake's many friendly lodging options, a great breakfast is often under the same roof. Bed and Breakfasts typically offer a delectably crafted morning meal prepared by a chef or the host. Resorts, hotels and motels can offer continental breakfasts or have quality restaurants on-site. Breakfast could even be eaten in the outdoors at a campsite or RV Park, cooked over an open-fire or on a camp stove.

However, if your plans for that first meal of the day involve venturing away from your lodging facility or your campsite, there's good news for those hungry souls in search of a morning meal that's going to get your day started on the right foot. Highlighted below are just a few Lake-area eateries making a name for themselves and their breakfasts.

Tonka Hills Restaurant

Visitors and residents alike line up for the big breakfast buffet at Tonka Hills Restaurant in Linn Creek.

Diehard folks enamored with the first meal of the day will truly enjoy Tonka Hills Restaurant in Linn Creek. On Saturdays and Sundays, Tonka Hills Restaurant in Linn Creek has one of the best breakfast buffets around with fresh fruits, crispy bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy and many other superb options. On weekdays the buffet is gone, but the menu features "build-your-own" breakfast platters and over-sized omelets made to order for mom and dad, as well as French toast sticks for the kids. The delightful staff is chocked full of country charisma and the no-gimmicks-needed-because-the-food-is-so-good charm is a favorite of locals. It is also a popular stop for visitors who are lucky to discover this Linn Creek pleasure. Tonka Hills Restaurant serves breakfast daily from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. but selected breakfast menu items are available all day. The weekend breakfast buffet runs from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you need more information about Tonka Hills Restaurant, call 573-346-5759.

Ozark Yacht Club

Skippers at the LakeSide Cafe can enoy dining indoors, boat-side service and carry-out options.

Choose to mix your breakfast with a dazzling sunrise view of the Lake of the Ozarks and anchor yourself (or your boat) at the LakeSide Cafe at the Ozark Yacht Club in Lake Ozark. Dine indoors or go outside to enjoy that lakeside meal in the morning. There is boat-side service, as well as a carry-out option for those skippers who might want to partake of the LakeSide Café's spectacular breakfast on their boats. The Café has 12 mouth-watering breakfast plates on the menu, several with whimsical nautical-themed names. Put in a yeoman's request for Swabbie Stack Pancackes, a Skipper's Breakfast Sandwich or the Three Sheets to the Wind French Toast. Dive into the Crabby Onion Omelet - with crab meat, caramelized onions and cream cheese - or sink your teeth into The Pontoon - a pillow of hash browns stuffed with bacon, onions and cheese. The Café is open Wednesday thru Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a menu or for more information, visit the LakeSide Cafe website or call 573-552-8401.

Mitch & Duffs

Get your fill of fresh, fluffy pancakes at Mitch & Duff's Restaurant at Dogwood Hills Golf Resort.

Golfers who want fuel for the long drives, but also don't want to waste any time from the meal table to the first tee can get their pregame grub at Mitch and Duff's Restaurant. However, you don't have to be a golfer to love Mitch and Duff's (located at Dogwood Hills Golf Resort in Osage Beach). Golfers and non-golfers both flock to the restaurant, famous for being the home of the 99-cents, all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Another of the restaurant's standards is the "country breakfast" special of eggs, bacon or sausage, a generous portion of hash browns and a choice of breakfast breads. Mitch and Duff's is open for breakfast from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week. The restaurant is open seasonally and is closed from Nov. 1 through February and reopens March 1. If you want to phone Mitch and Duff's, call 573-348-6669.
