Shanghai Value Added Tax Change Effective January 1, 2012

Effective January 1, 2012, the municipality of Shanghai, in the People's Republic of China will institute a mandatory new Value Added Tax (VAT). The announcement made by local municipality officials and confirmed by the local Chinese tax bureau, states that VAT will apply to local services at a rate of 6% for all industries providing "modern services", including household goods moving and other transportation services.

At this time, only the municipality of Shanghai is affected and the rest of the People's Republic of China will remain unchanged until further notice from the Chinese Government.

In order to comply with the mandate, as evidence and for the benefit of our corporate and private clients, Hilldrup will clearly show VAT on our invoices for shipments to and from Shanghai, as evidence that the VAT has been paid.
