Helping Spouses Relocate Aids Recruitment and Retention

When you make a job offer that requires a candidate to relocate, be ready to negotiate.  According to the Census Bureau, about two-thirds of families with school-age children rely on two incomes.  When one partner moves, the other has to find a job in the new location, and that can have a big impact on the candidate's decision to accept or reject your offer.

Helping spouses find employment in a new community through outplacement is a growing trend: A 2010 survey by Atlas Van Lines found that approximately one-fifth of U.S. employers, and one-third of companies with 5,000 employees or more, offer some sort of outplacement assistance to relocated spouses.

Relocation experts say that such services can both attract and retain talent, particularly because the sooner an employee is able to establish roots in a new community, the more likely he or she will remain with the organization for the long term.

Warnings of Container Shortages

Steamship container supply is an integral component of the international moving process.  We are closely watching the reports regarding the current and projected supply of these containers so that we can prepare accordingly and manage the effects it may have on our customers' shipments.  While Hilldrup has not currently experienced significant delays due to shortages, we are reminding customers to arrange their shipment pack and load dates as early as possible so that we can confirm steamship container bookings well in advance. Commercial Corner
E-Cycling Strategies
It Makes a Difference in Choosing a Commercial Mover

One of the growing trends over the past few years has been recycling electronic equipment or "E-cycling".  Equipment like computer monitors, printers, networking gear, and televisions are popping up in landfills, garbage dumps or more often than not just left in an office after a commercial move is complete.  In 2005, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 26 to 37 million computers became obsolete. Along with computers, TVs, VCRs, cell phones, and monitors-an estimated 304 million electronics-were removed from US households.

Understanding how e-cycling affects your office move is another way you receive added value from your moving partner.  Your moving partner can help you better identify e-cycling strategies and the best way to provide electronic end-of-life management solutions.  Today, everyone is conscience of the environment and the carbon footprint your business may leave behind after a move.  Providing guidance on e-cycling is another part of the planning process that lets you understand all the steps required for the move from beginning to end.
