Leverage Your Buying Power
There's a positive trend occurring today in the corporate mobility world ... the consolidation of mobility services, globally. Many companies today are combining their domestic and international mobility services into a single point within their organization. The advantages include greater control of mobility benefits, resources, standardization of processes and the ability to leverage buying power.
When you approach your relocation partners with a combined (global and domestic) relocation program, this can often lead to pricing opportunities for your company since many suppliers offer volume-based incentives. Speaking strictly about the transportation aspect of relocation, securing direct transportation agreements undoubtedly will result in exponential savings.
Equally important is gaining an understanding of your mobility partners' international or domestic capabilities, assuming your relationship is currently focused on one or the other. Placing trust in a supplier-partner inexperienced with servicing mobility needs in a specific geographic segment can be damaging to your program. Be sure to ask important questions to help identify strengths or weaknesses including: financial stability, global footprint (including brick & mortar), historical record, employee training programs, reporting capabilities, compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.
Centralizing a relocation program enhances the profile of the mobility department within a company and provides even greater value for a corporation. A global program could require mobility staff to be domiciled throughout the world, so ask your supplier partners what resources are available to support employees that may not be based at your headquarters.
