A Report on Current Delays in Brazil from our Industry Association LACMA
We have been informed that the congestion at Brazilian ports along with the increased customs bureaucracy is causing delays of over 30 days. The increase in the volume in addition to the lack of infrastructure at Brazilian ports is causing more delays than normal for the customs clearance process of household goods. Shipments of household goods and personal effects are physically inspected in Brazil. The ports' overcrowded terminals do not have scanners available for these inspections. After customs clears the paperwork, the file is sent to the port terminal in order to position the container for inspection. This results not only in delays, but also in higher demurrage and port charges. According to our Brazilian partners, these delays are expected for the next 60 days. We will keep you updated on this situation as information becomes available. |
