Greetings!

Do you sometimes have trouble locating your phone or car keys as you leave for work in the morning? Do you stumble over various items the kids dropped carelessly in front of the door? Read below and discover an efficient and affordable solution to these challenges and more.
Great Partnerships Make for Great Remodels

Did you know that Louisville Handyman is a full Registered Remodeler with the Home Builders Association of Louisville? About 50% of our sales, in a given year, are full remodel projects such as kitchens, bathrooms and basements.

One of the often overlooked, but most important parts of any remodel is the planning stage. We take pride in partnering with customers to take their ideas of features or design elements for their project, and bring additional ideas, products and designs together to make their dream remodel a reality. Louisville Handyman also has architectural software, which provides 3D walk-throughs, and talented designers to help you with choices such as tile, counter tops, plumbing fixtures, etc.

Over the years, we have learned that great partnerships with suppliers and subcontractors make for great remodeling projects. An example is our partnership with Southern Kitchens, which allows us to offer our customers ten different lines of cabinetry at a wide range of pricing and a full showroom. Customers benefit by being able to see samples of the cabinets before making selections and don't pay extra because we receive a discount not available to retail customers.

If you are looking for a great partner, use Louisville Handyman for your next remodel project. Also, feel free to visit our website www.louhandyman.com for pictures of remodel projects.

Create a Combo Laundry/Mudroom

Families today are always on the go, whether it is taxiing the kids to ball practice or rushing to the airport on a business trip. Sometimes your home's foyer appears to have been struck by a tornado. Muddy shoes, notebooks, dirty clothing, and cell phones are strewn about in disarray. Family members are always searching for "lost" items when they head out the door. Obviously, this is a very inefficient use of your precious time.

Our solution? Combine both a hardworking laundry room and a well-organized mudroom/drop zone into one area at your home's entrance. This results in an efficient and affordable use of work space in your home. Efficient because everything you need to clean, organize, and recharge your belongings is conveniently located right where you exit and enter each day. Affordable because a combination like this requires a smaller footprint than creating separate rooms. You will also save money because you do not need to duplicate certain items, such as the sink.

Your home may have multiple entrances: locate your laundry/mudroom combo at the entrance your family members use most frequently. To accomplish this, you may need to have a small addition built onto your home, or there may be ways to re-allocate existing space, such as utilizing a portion of your garage or a porch.

If you decide to locate your laundry/mudroom at an entrance that is also used by guests, there may be times when you wish to hide that room from view. One option is to locate the room discreetly around a corner; another is to conceal the room behind a pocket door that takes up no extra space.

Your laundry/mudroom should be a cheerful and welcoming place for you and your family to enjoy each time you enter your home. The selections you make for finishes are at the very foundation of keeping this space looking its best over the years. The constant wear and tear that dirt and water will have on your floors, for example, should be taken into careful consideration. Choose materials that are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain, such as slip-resistant ceramic tile, slate, linoleum, cork and high quality vinyl.

Make a list of all the items you wish to have available in your laundry/mudroom, and then include appropriate storage for each. Cabinets work well to conceal cleaning products, wire baskets make sports equipment easily accessible, and hooks are convenient for hanging up outerwear. Be sure to build in a docking station for charging your family's electronic devices.
