HAD A RECENT CHECK-UP?

Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start. Early detection of new medical conditions will often increase the chance of a successful treatment. Recommended exams and screenings vary depending on your age, health and family history, as well as lifestyle choices such as what you eat, how active you are, and whether you smoke.

To make the most of your next check-up, here are some things to do before you go:

  • Write down a list of issues and questions to take with you
  • Review your family health history
  • If you have recently been hospitalized, or had an evaluation by a specialist, make sure your internist has the records from this evaluation

Foxhall Internists specializes in individualized comprehensive physical exams. If you have questions or wish to schedule an appointment, please contact us at (202) 362-4467.

AUGUST: PSORIASIS AWARENESS MONTH

Psoriasis is the most prevalent autoimmune disease in the U.S., affecting as many as 7.5 million Americans. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals resulting in red, scaly patches on the skin that bleed and itch. Psoriasis is not contagious.

Psoriasis frequently occurs with a range of other health concerns including Crohn's disease, diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, depression and liver disease.

Up to 30 percent of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes pain, swelling and stiffness around the joints. People with mild psoriasis are just as likely to develop psoriatic arthritis as those with moderate or severe forms of the disease.

If you notice changes in your skin, speak with your primary care doctor or contact a dermatologist.
