Last week, the federal government unveiled a new food icon, MyPlate, to help consumers make healthier food choices.
MyPlate is a new generation icon with the intent to prompt consumers to think about building a healthy plate at meal times.
The new MyPlate icon, which replaces the previous food pyramid icon, emphasizes the fruit, vegetable, grains, protein and dairy food groups.
Visitors to ChooseMyPlate.gov will find practical nutrition information. As Americans are experiencing epidemic rates of overweight and obesity, the online resources and tools can empower you to make healthier food choices for yourself, your families and your children.
"Proper nutrition is a vital component of maintaining your health and well-being," said Foxhall Internists' Dr. Kristin Thomas. |

Unfortunately in the U.S., three quarters of our nation's health expenditures are due to chronic diseases - many of which are preventable.
If you are due for a physical or have questions about appropriate health screenings, vaccinations or other preventative measures you can take to reduce your risk of illness, you should speak to your physician or contact Foxhall Internists at (202) 362-4467. |
