KIDS CORNER

Alex and Jonah had their last day of school on Friday May 27th. At Alex's school there was a big program for the graduating seniors and it was pretty neat. They had several people speak and Alex's class got to do a dance. When the ceremony was over they released white doves, one for each graduate. It was really cool!

Alex lost his first top tooth while we were in Chaplinka. He looks so old now! He is enjoying having more time to play with his brothers now that school is out, but he does say every now and then that he misses his friends and wants to go back to school.

Alex continues to want to grow up way to fast and tells us all the time that he wishes he had someone to be in charge of other than himself. So the other day when Jon was in bed with a sore back, I had to leave to get some things from the store and I asked Alex to make sure to check on Daddy and make sure he didn't need anything. He was ecstatic!

Jonah continues to amaze us every day with his ability to draw and create things out of blocks. Theother day he made an "Alligator Helicopter" and it was awesome! Jonah also has a very big, soft heart and he LOVES animals. While we were in Chaplinka he found a small grey kitten and hugged, loved and played with it every second that he could. It was truly a mind expanding experience for the kitten.

Isaac surprised us the other day, when he said an entire sentence in Russian! We know that he will pick up the language very quickly once he starts pre-school in September. Isaac loves to play with his trucks. Dump trucks, fire trucks, diggers, you name it, he loves it! It is really fun to listen to him when he is playing by himself as he makes up these great stories and gets really into them.

Ministry News...

Well, our English Club has officially come to a close for the summer. It was a hard decision to make and we thought about it and prayed about it for a long time before we were able to make a decision. The summer is a very busy time for everyone and we needed to miss 2 weeks in June to help out with the Vacation Bible School in Chaplinka and for 2 weeks in July to help out at the church camp and the Kontaktmission camp. And in August, most Ukrainians go on vacation for 2-3 weeks or even the whole month. So, we decided to take a summer break and start back up in late August, early September.

We had parties on our last days of class and it was great to just relax and have fun and fellowship with everyone. It was Jon's birthday the following Friday so we celebrated that complete with a cake withfireworks on it!!! We are so thankful for the way that God has blessed this ministry and we are looking forward to seeing all of our students and hopefully some of their friends this fall!!!!

I am going to be starting a card making ministry in September also. The goal for this ministry is to provide an opportunity for outreach to the women of our church. I had some of the women over one night to show them what I was talking about and they were in awe! They loved the paper punches, stamps and cute papers and were asking how they could get some. So, I ordered some things and now we just need to get it organized and scheduled.

Please pray that God would continue to make these ministries fruitful!!!

Not Perfect.

A couple of weeks ago we met an American couple who were in Kremenchuk to adopt two special needs little girls from one of the local orphanages. We found out that they were alone in the city with no translator so we had them over for dinner and helped them get some shopping done. We were able to hang out with Travis and Catherine several times and saw pictures of the girls that they were adopting and we were very impressed by their love of Jesus and these little girls right from the start.

I understand that not everyone is meant to parent a special needs child. But they saw that these little girls were obviously not perfect and they chose to love them anyway. Seeing Travis and Catherine with their girls and how much they loved them got me thinking about our relationship with God. Compared to God we are even more broken and disabled.

Our flaws and imperfections may not be as obvious as the girls that Travis and Catherine adopted. We may have them hidden pretty well from the outside world and sometimes even ourselves. But God can see each and every one and He chooses to love us anyway. And the only thing that He wants in return? For us to love and trust in Him.  That's the message of Grace and the message of hope we want not only our Ukrainian friends to hear, but you too.  Take a minute to ponder the extremeness of His Grace.

The Center of the Universe 2011!

We are so thankful that we were able to be a part of the Vacation Bible School in Chaplinka again this year. We met up with the team from Bettendorf Christian Church on June 3rd and were absolutely amazed at what God accomplished in our 2 weeks there! We were able to serve, witness to and show the love of Jesus to 2,325 school aged children and their teachers!!!!!

But what was more incredible than the amount of students was the way that we were able to see some of them opening up to Jesus. There were a couple of 7 or 8 year old girls who after the program was over were asking questions like, "Where is God?", "How can I know God?" and "Does God punish me when I'm bad?". But the most amazing thing that happened was truly a miracle.

There was a 3 year old little girl at a local orphanage who we were told was mute. She had never spoken or made any sort of noises.....until the day the VBS team was there. They said that as she listened to the Bible story and watched the puppet show that she got so excited that she started to speak as though she had been speaking her whole life!!!!! Praise theLord!!!

We had a wonderful time with the BCC team and we are so thankful for the time we got to spend with them. We got to reconnect with some old friends and even make some new ones! Thank you so much dear friends for all of your love and support and for your deep love of Jesus and missions. We love you!
