Battle of Hampton Roads Juried Youth Art Competition |
In January of 1863, Grenville Weeks, former surgeon of
the USS Monitor
wrote, ' so long as we
remain a people, so long will the work of the Monitor be remembered, and her
story told to our children's children.' In that spirit, and
in commemoration of the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Hampton
Roads between the USS Monitor
and the CSS Virginia,
The Mariners' Museum, in partnership with NOAA's Monitor National Marine Sanctuary is
sponsoring a juried youth art competition with prizes awarded for 1st
place in three age categories. Winners will be announced in this special
opening event and artwork will be on display in the Museum's
galleries. All entries must be received at The Mariners' Museum by Monday, February 1, 2010, in order to be eligible for judging. Entry forms are available at www.MarinersMuseum.org. For more information, please call (757) 591-7740, e-mail:aholloway@marinersmuseum.org, or click here.
