M+W Instruments Burner Control Application

            Gas Burner Styles
M+W Instruments, a Bronkhorst group company, is selling mass flow meters with external motor regulated valves to control high flows up to 6000 ln/min of Air (equivalent).

M+W w/Servo ValveThe available kv-values are 1.1 / 2.8 / 3.4 and 4.4. These valves consist of a brass body and IP54 protection. The electronics are connected to the flow meter with analog 4-20 mA control mode by the MFM. No additional external power supply is needed.

The electronics with the control motor can be stripped and replaced while the valve remains in its mounted position within the application.

The valve function is "stays in position". In burner control, and other applications, customers need to maintain the gas supply even in case of complete power failures to avoid expensive oven shut-downs etc.

Multiple Gas BurnersThese applications often do not need a very high control speed from 'fully closed' to 'fully open' due to 365 days - 24 hour steady continuous process so the control speed is sufficient in comparison to direct operated valves. These control valves are not shut-off valves and they are not 100% gastight.

The valves are available in two variations for standard gases and Oxygen. The pressure rating goes up to 16 bar (g) and suit a delta P of 10 bar (d).

M+W Instruments has been selling these controllers for more than 6 years.

Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition

Pittcon Logo

This week Bronkhorst USA participated in the Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX.

Bronkhorst has expertise in the following fuel cell applications:

· Precise and fast Mass Flow Controllers for gases, e.g. for the control of Hydrogen and Oxygen in PEM fuel cell test beds, verification of catalysts, and accurate and repeatable gas mixture generation.

· Accurate and compact Mass Flow Controllers for liquids, e.g. for feeding Methanol to a DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell).

· Coriolis type mass flow meters for precise and fast measurement of reactant or exhaust gas flow, independent of gas composition or humidity.

· Flexible and accurate humidification of the air supply to a fuel stack, using a CEM evaporation system.

· Precise and reliable electronic (differential) pressure controllers, e.g. for stabilizing the pressure in the fuel cell against change of flow rate and maintaining a constant pressure difference across the membrane.

Interfacing Bronkhorst Instruments with LabVIEW Software

Idea

LabVIEW, from National Instruments, is a graphical programming environment used by millions of engineers and scientists to develop sophisticated measurement, test, and control systems using intuitive graphical icons and wires that resemble a flowchart.

LabVIEW

Mass Flow Meters and Controllers from Bronkhorst USA can be integrated into the LabVIEW environment.

The path for the interface to LabVIEW is through the Bronkhorst Flowbus protocol.  There are three means of communication that can be used to access Flowbus:

1) RS232 ASCII strings

2) dll

3) DDE
