Measurement Principles for Gas Instruments

In order to best meet the demands of your application, Bronkhorst offers four different gas application principles of measurement from which to choose.

1. Bypass

BypassDescription: A laminar flow device acts as a flow shunt to divert a small portion of the main flow through the thermal mass flow sensor.

Features: High accuracy, accurate conversion model, bypass measurement

Example: EL-FLOW

2. Chip-sensor

Chip sensorDescription: Instead of using a capillary tube as flow sensor, parallel to a by-pass channel, the flow sensor consists of a micro fluidic chip with heater and temperature
measurement arrangement.

Features: Fast, for non corrosive gases, thru-flow measurement.

Example: IQ+Flow

3. Probe

ProbeDescription:  Two stainless steel probes protrude into the flow channel bore, one is a heater and the second one is a temperature probe. A constant difference in temperature (ΔT) is created between the two probes.  The required energy to maintain the temperature
difference depends on the mass flow rate.

Features: Not sensitive to particles, robust, fast, thru-flow measurement.

Example: M+W D-6300 Series

4. Coriolis

CoriolisDescription:  Coriolis flow meters contain one or two oscillating tubes. When a fluid flows through the instrument, Coriolis forces cause a variable phase shift, which is detected by sensors. The output is strictly proportional to the mass rate.

Features: Very accurate, very fast, medium independent, direct mass flow measurement.

Example: CORI-FLOW

Autumn In New England
Exhibiting at ISPE Boston Meeting

ISPEBronkhorst USA will be exhibiting for the first time at the ISPE Boston Product Show.  The show is in conjunction with the annual chapter meeting, and is held at Patriot Place at Gillette Stadium (home of the New England Patriots).

Bronkhorst offers mass flow and pressure measurement and control solutions for Life Sciences applications including four different gas measurement technologies,  liquid flow, low delta P, vaporization, and OEM specific solutions.

We hope to see you there!

Connecting a Meter or Controller to a PC

Idea
All mass flow meters/controllers and pressure meters/controllers offered by Bronkhorst have RS-232 protocol available to make a connection to a PC.  Depending on the model instrument the physical connector may be a D-Type 9 pin connector, or a DIN 8 pin connector.

A CD with software for the PC is included with every Bronkhorst instrument purchase.  The software will allow the user to connect to the instrument through the use of FlowDDE.  Once that connection is made, FlowPlot can be used to monitor parameter values, plot values, and view and optimize controller settings.

Of course one needs to have a physical connection between the instrument and the PC, and Bronkhorst offers communication cables for either D-type or DIN 8 pin on the instrument side to a serial connector on the PC side.
