On the Move
Going GreenGetting Our Green On
As we jump into the busiest part of our season, we want to remind our clients how we are taking small steps to reduce our environmental footprint.

In our Small Wares and Catering Department, a huge amount of resources we use are dedicated to cleaning the product that we rent out, such as dishes, flatware, and glassware. We have recently installed a new M-iQ flight washing machine by Meiko - the first of its kind ever in the United States. Due to the extensive research and development efforts by the Meiko company, we are using less water, gas, electricity and labor to handle an ever increasing amount of work as Rentals Unlimited grows. Here are some stats to show how it compares to our previous dish washing machine:
  • 33% savings on water consumption from better tank management, high pressure washing, and a more efficient final rinse.
  • 25% decrease in gas and electricity consumption by using exhaust heat as a source of free energy to preheat incoming final rinse water and 3-stage energy control system.
  • 27% reduction of chemical use due to drop in water consumption and increase in water pressure.
  • 60% reduction in hours of operation due to conveyor belt system that increases how many dishes are washed per hour and decreases rewashing needs.

Our Laundry Department is also making an effort to conserve. In partnership with laundry specialists from Perkins and US Chemical, we have been able to adjust our wash formulas and improve our linen processing. A new washing machine provides the following benefits:

  • 40% savings - an average of 130 gallons per wash - on water consumption, which translates to approximately 15,000+ gallons per day!
  • 30% fewer chemicals used due to improved washing and rinsing systems.
  • 40% reduction in washing time. This results in reduced energy costs and optimal flow of material throughout the linen operation.

We have also recently installed motion sensitive florescent lighting throughout the warehouse. This means lights are not on in areas not being used, and lights cannot be accidentally left on when the day is over. Just another small way to make an impact!

It is also important to remember that renting items for an event - instead of purchasing something new to be thrown away -  is a great way to recycle!

 Trucks At JobHitting the Road

With the beginning of a new season usually comes many new faces to the Rentals Unlimited delivery and pick up teams. This year, we instituted a new driver training program to raise the bar on our level of service for all deliveries, pick ups, and set ups.

The goals of the program are simple:

  • to keep drivers up to date on the best practices and make sure we are all working together and striving for the same high level of service.
  • provide a training course that would certify that all existing drivers and new hires are delivery and set up experts.
  • provide new drivers with the basic product knowledge that can often be taken for granted or overlooked by veteran staff.
  • create processes and procedures that allow us to operate efficiently as a team with the goal of providing unparalleled service to our customers.

To reach these goals, we developed and implemented a two week, hands on training program that successfully ends with the driver being certified as an expert at delivering in the rental industry. This program includes 10 training sessions focused on product knowledge, installation processes, customer interaction and service, and work and vehicle safety. Drivers are also given a comprehensive product guide that includes photos, information on where items are stored and how they are packaged, and installation instructions. We have also developed an assessment for each training session to ensure trainees have retained the information and can be credibly certified experts.

We ask for your feedback on our delivery and sales team for all of your events. Please do not hesitate to reach out and let us know how we can improve, or if you liked the work we did!

This has been an interesting spring and things here are just as busy as ever. As mentioned above, we have taken some steps to "green" up our operations, which included our 2011 electronic catalogs and price lists. Many people have asked for a printed version of both for their reference and planning binders, so this year, we printed! In an effort to maintain our path of environmental friendliness, we also have electronic versions available to email for anyone who would prefer that. We are also happy to update your USB drive from last year or burn you a disk. Please just ask your sales team and they can get the files to you.

Be sure to check out our new featured products. Our Paris chairs in matte black and high-gloss white add an elegant and modern touch to your event - and are priced to please. The grey farmer's table gives that rustic touch while presenting a polished and pretty table. We are always trying to keep our linen lines up to date, too, so be sure to check with your account executives to see what is the latest and greatest for that department.

Things here are busy, busy! So I am keeping this short and sweet.
Until next time!
