Greetings from the Executive Director

As we prepare for the Great Backpack Giveaway, we think
about the many families that do not have the financial resources to prepare their children for the first day of school. Each year, we have hundreds of children and families line up outside the Agape Community Center to receive a backpack filled with supplies.
The Agape Community Center uses a holistic approach in working with children and families. The depth of our work is critical in establishing the framework for academic success. Our after- school and mentoring programs empower students and provide the academic support, exposure, tools and resources necessary for post-secondary success and a future of self-sufficiency.
Help us prepare a child for school by sponsoring a backpack or by tutoring, mentoring or sponsoring a meal for our after-school and mentoring programs. There are many ways to get involved, many ways to use your gifts and talents. Please consider partnering with us as we work diligently to positively change the trajectory of a child's life one day at a time.

Jasmine Henderson: Agape Alumna One Year into Georgia Southern University
Interviewed by Tobi Runsewe, Duke University Robertson Scholar
Jasmine Henderson is an Agape alumna from Atlanta, Georgia. She is a rising sophomore at Georgia Southern University where she intends to get a degree in Social Work that will equip her with the skills to run a non-profit organization in future. This summer, she worked as a service intern at the C.A. Scott Center where she served as a Camp Counselor. Jasmine and I got talking about her Agape experience and her freshman year.
How has your first your first year in college been?
Jasmine: It was wonderful. I learned a lot and enjoyed every bit of it. I really loved the sports culture.
How did Agape prepare you for your first year of college?
Jasmine: The Agape center took us on college tours and exposed us to scholarship opportunities. We were also connected to college students who gave us advice. We were helped through the SAT exam and college essay process.
What is the most memorable thing about your Agape experience?
Jasmine: I worked with Agape staff to start a step dance team and we performed. We also had a presentation by Passion for Life that taught us about real estate in Atlanta, which I remember very well because I love real estate.
How has your summer internship helped to prepare you for your sophomore year?
Jasmine: I think it has taught me to become more accountable to people around me, and to myself. I have also learned to be more understanding- you never know other people's situations.
Any last comments about Agape or your college experience?
Jasmine: I love Agape very much and I've still kept in touch with people at the center
