Duke University Robertson Scholar interns at Agape
Agape is honored this summer to be a preferred intern placement site by the Robertson Scholarship Program, a partnership of Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill. Duke University rising sophomore Miss Tobi Runsewe, hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, is spending this summer immersed in Agape's programs, learning about the issues and families we serve, and studying nonprofit best practices. Her duties include working with the GOGIRLGO! summer program and conducting research for Agape's programs and grant opportunities. During a recent interview, Miss Runsewe expressed that her internship has so far been a very insightful and fulfilling experience. We hope that Miss Runsewe's time with Agape will help shape her perspective as she continues her degree in International Comparative Studies and begins her career.

GOGIRLGO!
by Tobi Runsewe, Duke University Robertson Scholar
I was originally anxious about the GOGIRLGO! Fitness Camp because I didn't know what to expect. GOGIRLGO is a program by the Agape Community Center, which seeks to promote health and fitness and impart general life and leadership skills into young girls.
I walked in while the girls were having lunch and I was greeted with the most enthusiastic "Hiii!!" While I was trying to process the child-like vitality, the girls burst into a song about fitness and exercise. I found myself bopping my head to the rhythm before I realized that it was a remix for a mainstream hip-hop song. The sheer ingenuity! Some minutes later, I got to observe this energy in full force as I observed a cheerleading lesson in the gymnasium. After practice, I was surrounded by a multitude of girls who had a million questions for me. "What's your name again?" "Will you be back next week? Our Olympics are next week!" As I was trying to sort through my spontaneous interview, another group of girls came into the gymnasium and pockets of girls suddenly became scattered across the gym, with each group doing some form of fun activity like hula-hooping or stretching.

I turned on my camera and shot away happily. A little girl ran up in front of my camera and gave me the most adorable smile. "My name is Gracie, with a G," she asserted innocently before dashing off to the other side of the gymnasium.
I remain stunned by the innocence and boundless energy I experienced at the GOGIRLGO! Program. These girls are truly something special and have left me looking forward to going back for more.

Agape Community FestivalThe excited faces of children filled the parking lot at Agape Community Center during the Community Festival. Celebrating its fourth anniversary, the festival welcomed approximately 200 of our neighbors to join together for an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship. Smiles and laughter abounded as children painted a group mural, rode on the trackless train ride, and built their own puppets for a puppet parade. Animals from a local petting zoo even came to join the party. A big thank you goes out to Children's Health Care of Atlanta, Uncle Julio's, The Lovett School, Midtown Church, The Boy Scouts, and Fernleaf Neighborhood Association for helping us provide a wonderful afternoon for the children and families in our community.
