Congratulations Graduates!
Graduation congratulations to Jose Zuniga and the Agape Class of 2012!
The Ginger Kaney Mentoring Institute (GKMI) is a college and career readiness program which promotes graduation from high school and ensures exposure and access to post-secondary options. The program is free to all high school students in our service area, 99% of whom are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch in school. Every high school senior in the program has graduated since the inception of the program in 2009.
 | | Agape Class of 2012 Graduate Jose Zuniga with Program Director Tolton Pace |
For Jose Zuniga's three years in the program, GKMI supported his work to graduation by providing a weekly academic tutor and mentor, enrolling his parents in free English classes (which Jose also took to support their efforts), providing trips to the Microsoft Store for computer training, offering college tours and meetings with college admissions directors, arranging fitness workout sessions, and giving him service learning experiences. Last year Jose served Agape as an intern assisting the College Readiness and Multicultural Initiatives program, where he helped to develop program ideas and initiatives to better serve the growing Latino / Hispanic population at Agape. Jose took full advantage of all of these opportunities with great results while overcoming his own challenges with cerebral palsy.
With his Agape mentor, Jose is looking forward to exploring schools and opportunities to deepen his passions and career opportunities in Computer Science and IT. Jose has overcome many challenges and is grateful to have found the support to set a foundation to build on.
Congratulations to all of the Agape graduates including Anthony Luckett, Bobby Luckett, Ana Diego, Shedrick Fortson, RicTuita Fortson and Johntrell Clark

Volunteer Highlight: MODA Does The Extreme Bedroom Makeover
The spirit of giving has been contagious during this spring's Extreme Bedroom Makeover. Local businesses and volunteers alike are experiencing the joys of giving back. "The smiles on the kids' faces really say it all. The youngest child wanted to take his bath early so he could sleep in his new room. With greater business and volunteer involvement, Agape can expand the Bedroom Makeover project to other deserving kids." said Dean Howell, MODA Floors & Interiors' president. "We invite other local businesses to participate in this ongoing project."
This year Extreme Bedroom Makeover will provide new rooms for 39 children from impoverished families, including 22 children this fall. Interested in putting together a five person volunteer team to redo a room this fall? Contact Jared at jsulc@agapecc.org or call 404-367-3947. Extreme Thanks to our sponsors: Rooms to Go, Rosing Paint, The Waterfall Foundation, Stanley Furniture, Simmons Bedding, MODA Floors and Interiors, Ms. Verla Martin, Ms. Becky Crowder, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Piedmont Healthcare, First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee, The Davis Family and The Employee Legacy Fund at Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Special thanks also goes to our Extreme Bedroom Makeover teams: Trinity Presbyterian Church, Rooms to Go, MODA, SawHorse, Piedmont Healthcare, Northside Drive Baptist Church, The Davis Family, First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee, and Compassion Church. |

Uncle Julio's Gives Back!
The food line at Agape's 2012 Community Festival was bustling with excitement as families and friends waited eagerly for a plate of Uncle Julio's mouth-watering Mexican cuisine. The grills were going all afternoon as the children enjoyed face painting, basketball hoops, a trackless train, and a petting zoo. The aroma of fajitas and fresh roasted vegetables filled the air as families celebrated Agape's service to the community. Food, fun and laughter was shared by all. Uncle Julio's has supported Agape over the past three years by generously donating and serving authentic "border style" flavors at our Community Festivals, feeding up to 400 Agape clients each year. Thanks to Uncle Julio's, Agape families were well fed once again this year.
