Dr. Kenneth McRae Collaborates with Agape to Broaden Horizons of Ginger Kaney Mentoring Institute Students

Dr. Kenneth McRae is the definition of a generous spirit. Dr. McRae is a chiropractor with Complete Care Solutions who takes time out of his hectic schedule to coordinate college campus tours for the students of the Ginger Kaney Mentoring Institute (GKMI). In early March, The GKMI students had the opportunity to visit the University of Georgia campus with Dr. McRae (a UGA alumnus) to be inspired by the students and the collegiate atmosphere. This tour was such a success that Dr. McRae is planning another campus visit to Fort Valley State University later this year. When asked what inspired him to get involved he stated, "I feel I have been placed on this earth to help people. My hope is to serve others and help them do well for themselves." He expressed that communities are limited by their experiences and by broadening their horizons there are endless possibilities to what they can achieve.

Students in the Ginger Kaney Mentoring Institute (GKMI) visited the University of Georgia (UGA) on Feb. 16. Students received an extensive campus tour and rich oral history of the university, courtesy of one of UGA's Student Ambassadors. The GKMI students also enjoyed lunch in a formal ballroom at the school's Conference Center & Hotel. This distinguished lunch included a class on proper dining etiquette in a formal setting. The experience was truly an educational yet fun one for the students as they developed new life skills, an ongoing goal of the GKMI.

Agape Community Center welcomes volunteers of all ages. When Tory Dancu, Girl Scout and eighth grader at Pace Academy, was introduced to Agape through the "Fashion with Compassion" fashion show, she knew that she would like to get more involved. Through the help of Agape's dedicated staff, she found a project that would allow her to complete the requirements of her Girl Scout Silver Award and provide a quality craft project for the RAGTime Seniors. For her project, Tory supplied the materials for fleece tie blankets. Each senior was asked to make two blankets, one for themselves and one for the charity of their choice. When describing her experience Tory said, "I loved getting to know the RAGTime Seniors. They are so smart and interesting, and I learned so much from them." Tory is a reminder that people of all ages have the ability to give back to the community.
