Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friend, Mandela Quote

I believe in these inspiring words from Nelson Mandela.  I believe that domestic violence can be prevented and that communities and individuals can make a difference.

And, I believe that the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence is an important part of the solution.

If you also believe that domestic violence must end, click here to become a new member of DCADV or renew your current membership, giving both your financial support and the power of your voice to the work we do day in and day out.

Here in Delaware, police respond to more than 14,000 reports of intimate partner violence and around 3,000 petitions for Protection From Abuse are filed each year. Despite these alarming numbers, we know that most domestic violence goes unreported and that victims, because of the fear and abuse in their lives, are more likely to suffer in silence than to call the police or a domestic violence hotline

There is much we can do to promote awareness of the legal remedies and services available in Delaware while we work to ensure that the safety and justice needs of all victims are met. Yet, services alone are not the solution. DCADV also engages in primary prevention initiatives aimed at stopping the violence before it starts. In the spirit of Mandela, ending violence begins with the belief that change is possible.

I believe you are an important part of the solution as we continue this critical work.I am asking for your help in making our world a safer place for those victimized by abuse in their homes. There is power in numbers. Your membership in DCADV will demonstrate to policy makers and our community the importance of addressing violence against women right here in Delaware. Just as importantly, your 100% tax-deductible membership contribution helps us sustain critically important DCADV programs including our policy and advocacy work, media outreach and training and prevention initiatives. Read about all of the benefits of membership by clicking here.

Please take a look at our 2010 Annual Report below. I am so proud of everything we have accomplished and the difference I know DCADV and our partners are making in Delaware. I hope you'll be inspired as well. However, 2011 will bring both new challenges, including a tough economy, and new opportunities. DCADV will need your help as much as ever this coming year.

The Coalition's strength comes from the combined voices of our members, community partners, and survivors speaking out against abuse. By joining DCADV with your tax-deductible membership contribution, you will be influential in the lives of women and children across our state. Remember, ending domestic violence begins with you!

Sincerely,
