Greetings!

Thank you to all of our supporters who have joined the ranks of our HERO mentor program since my last update. I'm happy to report that we only have a few students who we are waiting to pair up with mentors. Our roster of mentors has been extremely helpful in referring their friends and colleagues to volunteer with the program.

We've also had several achievements and accolades roll in for our schools and students already this year. With semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program at two of our campuses for the first time, we're excited to see how this year's senior class begins to progress toward its scholarship goal of $20 million.

There are some fun events happening at our schools in the coming months, including Fall Festivals, Fun Runs, International Festivals, and much more. I hope you will take a moment to visit the website of your local Uplift Education school and see how you can get involved and support the efforts of their scholars.

Shine through,

Yasmin Bhatia

Summit International and North Hills announce National Merit Semifinalists
SAT Prep ongoing at all Uplift campuses

Congratulations are in order to both Summit International Prep and North Hills Prep scholars. Once again, a North Hills Prep senior has been selected as a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, and for the first time, Uplift also has a Semifinalist from one of its urban campuses. Please join us in congratulating the following students on their achievement. They should find out in February if they advance to the Finalist stage of the competition.

SAT prepEarlier this year Uplift Education began work to strengthen the SAT scores of its high school students. To that end, all Uplift seniors are currently participating in one of two SAT prep programs through their campus. This is a meaningful investment on Uplift's part in the future of each of its graduates. Uplift's SAT prep programs save parents $550+ on comparable SAT preparation.

The majority of our seniors are participating in "Early Edge SAT Prep," which is designed to provide them with weekly, personalized support to move their scores toward the 1100 score mark. The program is developed by Princeton Review and incorporates both test taking strategies and mastery of subject areas that they are struggling with. Uplift's top scoring seniors are participating in "Scholastic Success" on Saturdays, where they are pushed to optimize their score to increase their college competitiveness.

Andrea White visits Pinnacle Prep, Dallas Cowboys help build playground at Williams Prep

The past few weeks have brought some star-studded volunteer events at Uplift schools. On September 12, Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and tight ends John Phillips, Martellus Bennett, Jason Witten and Martin Rucker visited Williams Preparatory to help lend a hand for a playground build day sponsored by KaBOOM! and UnitedHealthcare. Together with more than 200 volunteers from UnitedHealthcare and Williams Preparatory families, they did the impossible and constructed a playground on the day that North Texas marked the most triple digit temperature days in one year.

On October 3, Andrea White, novelist and wife of former mayor of Houston and 2010 gubernatorial candidate Bill White, visited Pinnacle Prep. White shared with the 1st grade scholars about her life as an author, her inspiration for her books, and how illustrators and authors work together. She also read to the scholars from one of her books.

Each Texas public and charter school district receives a FAST rating from one to five stars. Each district's FAST rating is determined by taking the average of its composite academic progress percentile and its spending index. To be a Texas Honors Circle district, the district must have a five-star FAST rating. A five-star rating indicates the district is in the top 20 percent of the state in student academic growth and has a spending index of "very low." This means the district is in the lowest 20 percent of its fiscal peers in terms of core operating expenditures per student. This is the second year in a row for both Peak and North Hills to receive five-star district ratings.
