Greetings!
School is well underway at Uplift. This past weekend, Uplift rewarded some of its top performing teachers with a well-earned Dynamic Day in Dallas. We know that the hard work of our teachers is key to our ability to prepare 100 percent of our students to enter and succeed in college, and we are happy that we are able to reward them with a day of fun and pampering.
We hope you will share in our appreciation of our teachers by sharing a word of encouragement on our Facebook page or dropping off a special treat for them at your nearest Uplift school.
Uplift welcomes its newest scholars at Infinity Prep and Pinnacle Prep!
As you will see from the video below, Uplift's newest schools are up and running with great success in the classroom already. Infinity Prep opened in Irving South with grades K-1 and 6, and Pinnacle Prep opened in Oak Cliff with grades K-1. A few spots are still available for families who could benefit from a free, college preparatory education, and we appreciate your help in spreading the word.
Later this month, our students will be participating in their first round of "Common Formative Assessments" - a new type of test that Uplift rolled out this year to better measure student achievement throughout the year. Over the summer, 75 of our teachers worked diligently to develop these assessments for every grade and subject. Designed to be the hardest tests our students take, we're eager to see the data on how our students are progressing toward college readiness. This is just one of the many ways that Uplift is working to be innovative to ensure that are students are on-track to be prepared for college.
Thank you for your continued support.
Shine through,
Yasmin Bhatia Chief Executive Officer

2-minute video showcases new schools for the first time
With school well underway at Uplift, we took some time to create a new video that showcases some of the things that make Uplift schools unique. The video includes some footage from inside our two newest schools, Pinnacle Prep and Infinity Prep. We hope you will take a moment to check it out and share it with your friends on Facebook or by forwarding the link in an email. Click here to view the new video. |

Be a HERO to an Uplift high school junior
With just a few hours a week, you can impact a student's college success
Uplift is currently recruiting community members to be a part of its team of HERO mentors to assist our juniors and seniors as they prepare to apply to college. Mentors commit to the program for at least one year and are encouraged to make a two year commitment to mentoring the student so that they can see them through graduation and college matriculation. Our goal is to match each junior with a community volunteer who works in the field they hope to pursue in college. We are in particular need for mentors for students from Summit International Prep in Arlington and Hampton Prep in Southwest Dallas. We are also in need for mentors who work in the fields of engineering, the performing/visual arts, and veterinary medicine. If you're ready to make the commitment, here is how you can become a HERO: - Complete an application online
- Attend one of the training sessions listed below, or arrange an alternate date with the HERO coordinator. If you recruit 10+ mentors from your company, we can host an on-site training session.
- Attend at least four HERO special events with your student each year to help them with specific activities such as resume development, essay writing, career development or community service projects.
- Visit with your student at least once a month to work through monthly college prep goals (e.g., proofread college and scholarship applications, answer questions about college selection and future careers, etc.).
- Attend our College Signing Day and graduation during the spring of your student's senior year.
New Mentor Training Dates: - Thursday, September 15 at 6 p.m. at Williams Prep (1750 Viceroy Drive, Dallas, TX)
- Saturday, September 17 at 10 a.m. at peak Prep (4600 Bryan Street, Dallas, TX)
- Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m. at Summit International Prep (1305 N. Center Street, Arlington, TX)
- Sunday, September 18 at 4 p.m. at Williams Prep (1750 Viceroy Drive, Dallas, TX)
- Monday, September 19 at 6 p.m. at Hampton Prep (8915 S. Hampton Road, Dallas, TX)
- Saturday, September 24 at 10 a.m. at North Hills Prep (606 E. Royal Lane, Irving, TX)
Kick-off events will take place at each school in early October, so that mentors can meet with their students for the first time. If you mentored a senior last year and would like to participate in again, contact Cassie Hubbert at chubbert@uplifteducation.org. |
The Uplifters" raising money for breast cancer research
North Hills Prep team tackles Breast Cancer 3-Day
A group of North Hills Prep families, staff and supporters have teamed up to raise money for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.
On November 4-6, they will be walking 60 miles over 3 days, sleeping in pup tents, showering in tractor trailers, using porta-potties, and eating outside. It is sure to be one of the most emotional, life-changing ways to spend a weekend.
"The Uplifters" team consists of:
- Nancy Lee: 5th year walker, parent of four North Hills Prep students and a North Hills Prep employee
- Laurie Elmore: 5th year walker, parent of two North Hills Prep students and also a board member
- Charie Sarosy-Kelly: 5th year walker, aunt of two North Hills Prep students
- Alex Lee: 4th year walker, former North Hills Prep student
- Kelly McCombs: 1st year walker, North Hills Prep employee
- Roz Hood: 1st year walker, North Hills Prep supporter
The team will walk in honor of their mothers, sisters, grandmothers, daughters, daughters-in-law, aunts, nieces, granddaughters, and friends. They walk in memory of those who lost their fight and the ones still in the fight. They walk to erase the words breast cancer from our vocabulary.
Each team member is responsible for raising $2300 in their name. You can show your support by making a tax deductible donation. Click here to make a difference.
