Greetings!
As the new Executive Director of Pets of the Homeless, I am humbled as I learn more about the struggles of the homeless with pets.
We will include individual cases in the newsletters to give a peek into the lives of those helped by donations to Pets of the Homeless. Several personal cases stand out which help give a mental picture of the profound difficulties faced by the homeless with pets.
YOU make the difference and touch the lives of many animals and their owners. To help an animal is to help those who love and care for them. During difficult economic times across the country and especially when the weather is challenging for the very survival of those on the streets, the outreach of Pets of the Homeless very literally saves lives. The crate project opens shelter doors so those with pets may find warmth and comfort from severe, rough and harsh stormy weather across the country. We continually recruit shelters to take advantage of the free crates provided by the Pets of the Homeless Crate Project. As we all begin a new year, let us remain united in our dedication and outreach. Thank you for your steadfast kindness and contributions of time, food, and monetary donations.

Genevieve Frederick, Founder of Pets of the Homeless, has stepped down as Executive Director. Genevieve will remain actively involved with Pets of the Homeless as President of the Board and consultant to Renee Lowry, the new Executive Director.
Anyone who has worked with Genevieve is, at once, impressed with her passion to help others. True to that calling, she has been an active member of Rotary International and Board Member of the Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Foundation where she helped with countless fund raising efforts. Genevieve makes magic happen wherever she focuses her efforts. To know Genevieve is to know she has a special dedication and love for animals. What began locally as Feeding Pets of the Homeless has grown nationally and touched into Canada and Australia. It is with great admiration, respect and appreciation for Genevieve Frederick that we dedicate Pets of the Homeless Newsletters. |

Wants to Help
I am about to become homeless myself and I'm sorry I cannot do more. I know how much my 2 dogs mean to me and they have been the reason I have not committed suicide. I can't bear the thought of leaving them.
I know this must be true for those who are homeless. Our pets are very often the only beings we can trust and they understand us.
Please let me if I can do more and how I can help.
Thank you and God Bless You!
Thank you, Shelli, for raising money for Pets of the Homeless. Your ongoing support means everything to us. Sadly many visits to Pets of the Homeless website are from people like you who are about to become homeless or are homeless with pets.
In such a circumstances, we suggest a visit or call to the local Salvation Army, food bank or food pantries and to ask for pet food, check with Catholic Charities and other social organizations. Veterans can call local VA office for help. Some dog rescues, local animal control, SPCA and Humane Societies may offer pet food and also "foster" pets until a pet owner can get back on their feet.
Organizations that distribute pet food and pet supplies are listed by state on Pets of the Homeless website. Visit often as the site is updated frequently.
Too few shelters allow pets. Pets of the Homeless recognizes the dire need for homeless services to fill the gap of not allowing pets into their shelters. There is a list of homeless shelters that allow pets or provide for pets on Pets of the Homeless website. Visit often as the site is updated frequently.
Because you are about to become homeless, consider a visit to a homeless shelter in your area. Provide them with this information. You may be the person who opens the door to the homeless with pets in your community. Help us to help you and them.
Sincerely,
