Greetings!
The holidays are upon us and many are filled with good cheer. We at Pets of the Homeless send greetings and best wishes for joy, peace and laughter to each of you, your families and friends.
Throughout the cold nights of winter our thoughts always go to the pets of the homeless. We share concerns about their most basic needs ~ food, health and shelter.

Donations to Pets of the Homeless Collection Sites
are always needed and more so during extreme weather conditions when the animals needs are the greatest. A donation of pet food, a leash, any cash donation will go to help an animal befriended by the homeless. Such generosity saves animal's lives.
Giving time to recruit others, volunteer for an event, spread the word about our mission to provide food, veterinary care, shelter to pets of the homeless is what makes magic happen. Join with us as we care for these animals across the United States and in Canada. Heartfelt appreciation, Genevieve Frederick, Founder

SNOW Event in Riverside, CA
Spay Neuter On Wheels
Animals befriended by the homeless often have never received any veterinary care. On October 9th in Riverside, CA with the help of Pets of the Homeless and Retrievers and Friends of Southern California, a mobile veterinary unit called SNOW Mobile (Spay Neuter On Wheels) provided free spay and neutering to 18 dogs and two cats. All were given shots and had their nails clipped and received pain medicine to go. Another 10 dogs received shots and two dogs had growths removed from their backs.
The event staffed by veterinarian Dr. Jane Koepcke, five volunteers from RFSC, Pastor Ruth Record of "Come As You Are" Homeless Ministries (CAYA) and Pets of the Homeless volunteers; Barry Ebling and Jan Baron were instrumental in networking to organize the event.
Genevieve Frederick is the Executive Director and Founder of the national, nonprofit, volunteer organization Pets of the Homeless. "We believe in the healing power of companion pets and the human/animal connection. We do our best to help reduce hunger in pets belonging to the homeless and less fortunate. One of our objectives is to provide veterinary care in communities across the country and in Canada. We always stress the importance of reducing pet overpopulation."
Barry Ebling of Pets of the Homerless said, "We are honored to have networked with such enthusiastic, hardworking people and hope this is just the beginning of a project that will continue. This event was made possible because of the $1,000 award from Pets of the Homeless. The event was held near the homeless encampment and with a donation from Right Way Portable Toilets we were able to provide a lavatory."
Frederick said, "It's the volunteers like Barry Ebling, Jan Baron and Pastor Record who make such events possible. Their determination, hard work and the dedication of everyday people make incredible things happen."
Pastor Ruth Record of CAYA reported, "Pets of the Homeless has been such a huge blessing to our four legged friends. Every time I meet with Barry or Jan, we are blessed with hundreds of pounds of pet food, pet supplies, veterinary services and even networking with other organizations."
"They were able to raise enough money to provide a necessary surgery for Buddy, the only friend Lori has. The poor dog would not have survived without their help. Literally hundreds of animals are fed because of their kind and caring donations. Anyone with a heart for animals can learn more about Pets of the Homeless on their website."

Ocala, FL Veterinarians & Volunteers
Continue Outreach
South Ocala Animal Clinic is a pet food collection site for Pets of the Homelesss in Ocala, FL. "We know God blesses this ministry because of the continued generosity of our donors, the absolute dedication of our volunteers and the bonds of friendship that have cemented us together and will last a lifetime." said Dr. Kevin Stoothoff.
Free veterinary care to cats and dogs belonging to the homeless and needy are provided every other Wednesday at the Interfaith Emergency Services. There is an average of 10-20 pets per visit.
Dr. Stoothoof said, "Terry, Susan, Kathy, Jeff, and Alina are a dedicated group of loyal volunteers who regularly help us each visit. We have been doing 26 trips a year since October 2008 and are able to continue our outreach solely through local donations and the generosity of our volunteers. We also distribute up to 110 pounds of pet food each visit. "
Drs. Kevin Stoothoff, Lisa Laviola-Dowd and Sarah Kirk of Ocala, FL continue to providee and consistently give away approximately $300 (their cost) of vaccines, flea and heartworm medication each visit.
All recipients must be a county resident with picture ID and proof they qualify for government assistance programs. Their policy is that all adult pets must be surgically sterilized to receive services and no more than 2 pets per household can receive treatment within a year.
There has been an increase in the numbers of people served due to the economy and joblessness. As people from the north escape the cold and begin to arrive in Ocala during the winter months, higher numbers of pets will need to be fed.
